I've noticed this with a few beers, cheaper on tap and way cheaper at fests. For example, at one fest I was paying $1 for 4oz of a new beer that later retailed for $30 a bomber. Had I known that, I would have had a few more samples.

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed often retails in the $6.99-$7.99 range as do many Sierra Nevada 6 packs.

Cantillon?! Great beers but a stupid premium. I'd still buy them

Anything Cascade. I've actually never tried it but for $30-$40 per bottle for a readily available beer I think I would pass.

But BCBS is $12 for 16oz and no one complains....very similar $ per oz ratio. And honestly I like Bomb better than this year's bcbs. When it was rare it was one thing. But my local bevmo has 5 cases of bcbs sitting on the shelfs as of yesterday. But they only have 4 bottles of bomb.

    For me was this:

Tasted like absolute shit, and was $12. It had a good rating, so I don't know why it turned out that way.

By me in the north east it's Grimm. On draft it's routinely $1 per ounce and the cans are around $7. My local shop said about a year ago it would sit in the keg forever, now it kicks in a day. I get that they are capitalizing on newfound popularity, but the pricing seems like a bit of a reach. I would be concerned this bubble could pop. Any short term windfall may be fleeting and the scarcity of product is not growing return customers.

It's actually really funny.. so I went into my local store that has a great selection, right before they closed yesterday just to pop in and see if they got anything new. Instead, they had a lot of their old expensive stuff on sale. And a lot of the offenders I previously mentioned were for sale. Eclipse 50 50 was down from 30 to 23, cascades were flat 26 (even for sang noir), all of the expensive lost abbey 12 oz were down to 12. Avery barrel aged projects went from 15 to 11. And so on. I told myself I wasn't buying any expensive beer this week... until I saw all those for sale... I feel like those prices are much more like what they should actually be. We'd probably still complain about those prices but hey it'd be a start.

The pricing on Grimm is retailers upping the price cashing in on scarcity and beer geek craziness.

Any beer I buy when I go back to Long Island to visit my family. Jeez, beer is expensive there. And most of it is not refrigerated, which makes it an even tougher pill to swallow. Jai Alai, while I was glad to get it, was practically $20 a six pack. 16 oz Maine bottles were about $10. Maybe I'm going to the wrong stores?

Also, regular sculpin. I can justify the additional cost for the grapefruit because it's so damn good, but there are many better and cheaper IPAs than Sculpin.

I tried Grapefruit Sculpin for the first time last week, and I thought it was good, but definitely not worth almost twice as much as other IPAs like Stone and Torpedo.

Lunch isn't in a bomber (it's a 500ml bottle) and it's generally priced closer to $7.50 or more. That is definitely on the high side for an IPA. Most of their other beers are around the same or a bit less but sit on the shelves

Wow, that's dramatic. It's not that bad... The 10% bomber / festival version is what got me to taste it in the first place and it was actually quite good. I won't buy a 6er of the stuff, but it's kind of a fun little side drink.

It's all relative to where you live. Cost is fairly on par with Pliny...also 500 ml

22oz bottles of Enjoy By retail for $8.99 in comparison, Lagunitas is $4.99 for 22oz bottles of Hop Stoopid. But, still even at $7.50 that's a pretty decent price for a world class beer, not amazing, but compared to a $40 bottle of Imperial Stout and comparative rating, that's not a bad price per say.

If lunch was a double ipa that would make a bit more sense. It's a 7% ipa. And the real problem with mbc is that their other beers are priced about the same but move so slowly (since they're an even worse value) that they just turn into shelf turds.

Your BA stout comment is ironic since I can go and pick up a 500ml bottle of BA framinghammer for $9 which is a price that many stores will charge for lunch.

Everything is overpriced in NYC, but generally speaking almost anything from Mikkeller, Maine Beer Co, Evil Twin and any IPA from Grimm.
