I like coconut and porters and haven't had a rum barrel aged beer before so I'm interested.

Only have tried Ballast Point BA Rum Victory at Sea. It was good and would definitely have again, but it didn't blow me away. Would be interested in trying Avery's version as a comparison.

If I see it, I'll try it but won't be searching for it.

I LOVE almost everything that Avery puts out, but I have to agree with Raspberry Sour. It did nothing for me. I haven't been able to find any Vanilla Bean yet in my neck of the woods. What didn't you like about it?

Tasted like someone dumped a ton of vanilla extract and sugar into an Imperial Stout. Zero barrel presence!

Rum barreled beers are fantastic! Well, Pirate Noir/Bomb! it amazing. I had Odell Russian Pirate and was a little underwhelmed.

I was just talking with a friend about how Im surprised there haven't been more rum barrel aged beers done. Definitely will give this one a try, although without any expectations.

The green foil beers are year-round beers. Any year-round beer is going to spend less time in a barrel. See also- Big Bad Baptist. They are reasonably priced year-round beers. The trade-off is less time in a barrel. Fremont KDS is great but it's only on the shelf for about 2 days a year, if that. Because of the time in barrel, it's not possible for it to be available year-round.

I understand your point. The only difference I can tell you is i would grab Big Bad Baptist again and again whereas with the vanilla bean stout once was enough. At least for me.

If this is even close to Big Bad Baptist, Avery has hit a home run here.

It sounds good, but they are cashing in on something that has been done already. ETC..Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. No innovation.

Only that the Breckenridge is not brewed with coconut, not barrel aged, and half the ABV. Yes, the 25th Anniversary was rum barrel aged, but it still wasn't brewed with coconut and it was a one time release. You can't even remotely compare the two.

As for this line of beers being year round, year round where? GA only saw a small drop of each and the well has been dry ever since.

This is a coconut porter aged in Rum barrels, which they also did in 2014 when they made Momi Hiwa.
Breck vanilla porter is not "innovative", nor does it contain coconut or is aged in barrels... and it's Budweiser now.

There's not much in beer that hasn't been done already, it's all been done before. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for places like Avery to deliver quality batches of good beer.
