He says he tried it first thing, but that's the problem with these festivals. They get 1oz pours out of a tiny snifter and then pass judgement. Last year everyone hated SR71 at Huna Day and it's probably a top 3 favorite beer ever for me.

When I first entered the festival, the TG line was by far the longest I saw, that was around 11:20 or so. It may not have stayed that way given some of the other long lines I saw that day (Side Project, 3 sons, Bottle Logic). I give them a ton of credit for being one of the longest lasting given the size of their line all day. It was 3pm or so before they ran out of beer.

Talked to Clark for quite a bit, what a nice guy.

Alright, so I feel like this is probably not OT so I'll just go ahead and ask it - my wife (who loves a good ipa) and I have a long weekend coming up and I'm trying to convince her to spend it in decorah. Aside from TG, which is obviously the focal point of this trip, what else does decorah have to offer? Basically, I need help selling this trip. Restaurants? Parks? A waterfall or a nice trail would be awesome. Is decorah a one trick pony? Any help would be appreciated, the itch to visit has been swelling up for some time.

Dunning springs for the waterfall (just down the road from TG), 17 miles of paved trails for walking/biking, the fish hatchery is always a cool place to check out, lots of great restaurants that cover all food styles, Phelps park is a nice park with some great views, an excellent campground, the courtyard and cellar, the list goes on. In the summer the river is excellent for tubing or kayaking.

Gonna also be stopping by in a week and a half with the family in tow, couldn't find any info on the website, is the Taproom 21+? Trying to figure out how to distract the wife and kids for a while if not so I can sample and grab some to go.

I don't know if there are any actual rules, but the place is really chill. I could see a family playing a card game in there and ordering a pizza from somewhere without issue. It's also small however, so get there early or at non-peak hours if you can.

You will love Decorah if you appreciate small towns, fantastic beer and outdoor activities. I highly recommend biking the Trout Run Trail, pizza at Mabes, beer at TG and Pulpit Rock, beer and relaxing at the Courtyard & Cellar, Dunning Springs and a stop at the Seed Savers Exchange.

Tap room is very kid friendly. They have some mega block toys in the corner for kids. Just order a pizza from mabes and bring some drinks for the kids (and wife if she doesn't do beer). I've brought my 4 and 1 year old a couple times.

I've also brought my kiddo. Usually order a Mabe's when we're about 10 minutes out and they have it delivered just after we sit down with our drinks. After our pizza we either play card games until we're ready to go or there are a couple of other board games or TV to watch.

Do people really drive from mn with kids to tg to visit their taproom?

We did it with the dog, but that was to get SR-71 and we made a road trip out of it.

I wouldn't do it normally though. But if you are an outdoor type of person, it would be worth it for a quick stop for lunch and beers at TG. Plus the drive through Rochester and into Decorah is beautiful in the fall.
