I want them to carry mostly 4/6 packs but allow you to buy singles or make your own mix pack from them.
And if you buy 6, you get a 15% discount on the higher single price which is typically the markup..

That's how ABC does it down here if you have their free loyalty card thingy and its fun to just buy one bottle of stuff you know or try a bottle of stuff you don't, giving you some variety.

Of course they also have an End Display with singles that they stocked as well, but the price per bottle is the same as if you'd just pulled a bottle from a shelf 4/6 pack.

I used to be a fan of the idea of mixed 6'ers, but too often those bottles are cast offs and older than the same beers in packs.
Either that or the mixed bottles are uneven in quality and the better mixed items have been picked through.
There are exceptions, but that's how it tends to be out here.

Singles are nice to try something new, but you need to drink a beer more than once or twice if you really want to get to know it. So it's 4 and 6 packs for me. Of course it sucks when you get stuck with extras of something that turns out to be awful, but if you look stuff up on BA and remember to check the date stamps on the bottles then that's pretty rare.

I buy singles on beers I haven't tried before and it's saved me a ton of money. Yes, I paid a premium of 20-30 cents per can/bottle but it's prevented me from sitting there with 5 cans/bottles of a beer I don't like.

Luckily, there is a shop nearby with a huge selection that allows you to grab singles out of any packs throughout the store.

Chris, the same issue I have at my local shops. A frustrating situation for me.

    Cheers!

I pick up whatever sounds good at the time, regardless of the pack size.

Most of the time I want something specific and want 4. I do love that certain place let me mix and match so I can try something new though.

The NYC/LI/HudsonCo beer scene has really taken off in the last 5 years - so most of the beers that are interesting to me are sold as growlers direct from the brewery. So if I'm not picking up a few growlers from Barrier, Peekskill or Greenport - I'm more than happy to get 6pks or larger of SN, Anchor - I've even been buying some Brooklyn and Sam Adams recently. I also buy Belgian/German beers when the price is right.

I choose singles because any place that has singles also has 4 and 6 packs.
I don't read the o.p. as singles only or 4 and 6 packs only, I read it as singles also, or 4 and 6 packs only.
And if I felt the need to have 2 of something to determine if I liked it, I could always buy 2 as opposed to 4 or 6.

Prefer singles, but also a big fan of 4 packs which are the best value/variety combination.

I love getting singles to try, a mix 6 gets me a lot of different flavors to sample and anything I feel I want to dig deeper into I might do another mix 6 with some doubles to further taste test....love all the options for singles...tasty choices!

I usually limit my carrier purchases to those few beers I like to drink in volume. Two Hearted, PsycHOPathy, White Rajah, etc. I always pick up a couple 6 packs of something to drink in the garage on the weekend. Beyond that, it's mostly singles.

I have a hard time to committing to a 4/6 pack if I have not tried it before, especially if it is north of $10. I prefer to get bombers or mixed 6-packs - no commitment plus variety.

Well I've never been to a shop that ONLY sells singles....Our Total Wine store here in town sells singles of about 90% of the beers they keep in stock. It seems like you would sell more beers this way
Mixed Thread Reply-When I fill my mix pack of singles I'll only use carriers that I like....pet peeve.

I buy everything...just depends. I like to explore, so pick-6 are great, but I also like to try stuff more than once to see how much time/mood affect my taste. A lot of times my pick-6 only includes 3 or 4 different beers.

All for mix packs here. Variety is the spice of life after all!
