    Quick question: I have a 3 year vertical at the moment, 2014, 2015, 2016.

Should I go ahead and drink the vertical now or keep it going? I've had Huna fresh, but never aged. Thoughts?

    Cheers!

I had the 2014 at Huna Day and it was fantastic. Drink it!

If you have several per year..save some for a multiple year vertical...recently did a 5 year vertical of 11-15 and they are all wildly different...one of the years(12 or 13) was not very good at all

I would drink them now. Done a few verticals from 11 on and Some years hold up well but I've never personally thought they got any better.

    This ^^^^

It's fun to see how age changes a beer from year to year.

Did a vertical with all of them outside of BA versions. 10 was the first year? Whatever it was the first one was getting at the end of its life but was good. 11 was fantastic. 12 was the worst by far.

12 sucks. Had it at the brewery. May have had at hunaday. 13 was great. 14 is great. 15 was very nice and I think 16 is one of the best fresh yet.

    I wouldn't age it much.

^ this is pretty spot on. I'll add only that 14 had 2 batches and b1 is better than batch 2. Which is saying something because b2 is very very good. I thought 15 had too much cinnamon, but still good. And 16 is drinking fantastic. Generally the base beer holds up really well over time but the cinnamon and then the peppers fade a little.

'14 (batch one, haven't had two) is def more appreciated than '15. Nice to hear great things about '16. Came up on 4 bottles at cost! Planning on having one this weekend. Probably do a '14, '15, '16 at Wanee Music Festival in April.

    Last year at Wanee:

My two cents on the two most current huna issues:

2016 Bags: had two 8-bottle tickets, got four bags with four bottles per, went through the line right as the fest was ending, which took about a friggin hour

Four year huna vert done in August 2015:
    2011: verrry nice, smooth and Zhukov-like (4.5)
2012 decent but more bitter dark chocolate flavor not as smooth as 2011 (4)
2013 still good but no discernible qualities to stand out (4)
2014 very good, still get some adjuncts like cinnamon and vanilla (4.25)

Just saw this post about 2016 being sour. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Really hoping this was a one off issue but I haven't opened mine yet.

Hmm...while of course possible, this is definitely the first issue I've heard with 2016 Huna. And I have to admit I'm slightly dubious given that 2015 was his favorite year from 13-16. 2015 was the worst batch I've had by far.

That said, my experience with BCBS this year has made me much more open minded, so who knows, but hopefully it's isolated.

Drank a 2016 recently and there were no issues. It's not barrel aged so would be really surprised if it was "infected"

I've had 2016 twice. No signs of infection, but it wasn't very good either time: noticeable acetaldehyde off-flavor and nothing close to previous years (which were opened side-by-side).

I guess this year, we will be able to buy tickets at the gate, and chant "Cigar City sucks" all over again.
