Against my better judgment I think i want to make a Rose Petal test batch beer(One Gallon) After reading about this online it seems to be overwhelmingly a bad idea. (Perfume taste, no rose taste, exc.)

But after all that i still want to try it. So here's a few questions i hope you all can help with.

I think the best bet to get the rose flavor is to add Rose Petals soaked in vodka during priming sugar/before bottleing. My question for this is how much Vodka can i infuse without it killing off the yeast needed to carb?

If i infuse a sculpin with rose petals in a french press for 20min do you think this would give me an idea of how it could taste? Or would it need more less time?

What would be the best hops/yeast to use in your opinion?

Lastly, would you try this beer? Lol cheers!

    Yes I would.

A local brewpub (Iron Hill - Phoenixville, PA) brewed a beer using both rose petals and rose water for the recent St. Valentine's Day and it was a very tasty beer: a Rose Tripel. Needless to say but I do not have any specific brewing details that I can share with you.

I discussed this beer on a New Beer Sunday thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-573.386002/page-3#post-4512303

    Cheers!

This my defeat your intentions, but did you ever consider adding rose water instead? You won't get any color but you will absolutely get flavor.

I think you would want to limit the IBUs. Othewise, the hops will overwhelm the rose flavor. Sculpin may not be your best choice. I would try it first with an AAL.

As for infusing rose flavor into liquids, you might check some sources on persian or middle eastern food.

I once worked for a brewery that made a special rose beer. All they did was add pre-made, purchased rose water to their regular blonde ale. It was a huge seller.

@NeroFiddled @FeDUBBELFIST yeah but after reading online i got the idea that rose water is very potent so if it may cause too much flavor or a soapy taste. I may get some and add to an IPA though just to try. If it works i guess i could use a drop in each beer when bottling.

Yeah i thought of this too... any hops out there that give off Rose flavors so ut complements and not overpowers?

Or just add a drop to your beer glass and fill it with your homebrewed beer? If this 'works' you can control the amount of flavor after the fact and even vary the amount given your mood that day.

    Cheers!

Did a rose hip beer (clone of Anchorage brewing co's love buzz), but never tried rose petals/rose water. So what about using lychée juice to get that rose water flavor?
First hop that popped into my head was Equinox for some reason...

Fresh lychee certainly has a floral aroma. Canned lychee is disappointing compared to fresh. Lychee juice is difficult to source. Rose water isn't difficult to source and it smells like roses, not lychees. Rose water is also considerably more potent than lychee. All of them are different than rose hips which is mostly tart with a hint of floral.

My advice is to buy some rose water and dose a 12oz beer. Count the drops until you have achieved the right amount of rose. Extrapolate to determine how much to add to a full batch. Orange blossom water is another useful product in the same regard.

Middle Eastern and Indian food stores would have it. It's also available on Amazon.
