I don't like/understand why y'all are such brewery apologists so often. Stop letting breweries get away with pretty much the worst customer service possible. There are ways to do online sales that aren't shit-shows, and complaining about a brewery not following the law isn't "rocking the boat". It's one of the more regulated industries out there, why can't they figure out stuff like this?

I get why breweries put pick-up dates on the terms, and understanding that I try to adhere to them when at all possible. As mentioned above, it's almost certainly not legal to not give a return or the bottles after the date though - and I think that the "events" aspect is a matter of convenience with the online marketplaces that they use and the "perishable" claim wouldn't last two minutes in an actual court.

    Fascinating.
The demand outweighing the supply bypasses the odd 'only 2 day window' issue and adapts the availability to a mix of 'how bad do you want it' and chance. Not anything to lose sleep over ultimately with no better alternative.

Some people really do come to the internet with the sole purpose of being a complete dick for no reason.

You really nailed it. It really would boil down to various legal opinions on whether or not it is truly an "event" or a tangible good. I'd argue that most are tangible goods, but Firestone Walker's release today is really well-worded connecting it to a special bottle-share event and tasting. (This is perhaps weakened by the fact that there is a pick-up window broader than that one day). Ultimately, I think most breweries are run by nice people that accept the fact of a few people will miss the window and they'll discreetly get them their bottles or refund them. Either that or you have customers who shrug off losing their money for what was basically their own fault.

I don't agree with some of the other posts that online sales would ruined by procrastinators. Breweries have to put a lot more resources into in-person sales and they have to personally handle a lot more logistical issues than with the online releases. You'll always have some breweries that find online sales just aren't for them (I'm looking at you Alpine! :astonished:).

I don't think the guy was trying to be a dick, that's a bit extreme. I think he's pointing out that the more people debate the pricing, the more buzz/hype (or "hubbub" in his words) it creates. Maybe my bad interpretation though...

Perhaps it's the long ago Econ major in me, but as long as the demand is so great for a product, the prices will remain on the high-end and the producer can get away with some not well-liked business prices. Why does Disney raise prices? Because they can. As long as people are willing to line up for the beer or click F5 for hours, prices can stay high. I don't get why people wait in lines & complain about the process and/or prices, yet open their wallets for the brewery. The demand is so great for some of these beers, it puts the brewery in a powerful position. They'll keep doing what their doing, because they know they will still sell beer to the next guy. Kind of reminds me of the DMV - they'll move as slow & be as incompetent as they want because they know you need to get your license renewed regardless. You can't take your business anywhere else for a license, but with beer you can! Don't like the prices or process, take your money elsewhere. Or, if you are a huge, loyal fan, maybe have a civilized conversation with a company official to voice your complaints, rather than take it to the streets with some obscenities.

I'm on the side of pass this time cause of the high price, short p/u window, and so-so feelings about a couple of the recent Veritas releases, BUT, I will be all over DDG and Izzy for whatever the price is because:

    1. I really, really like DDG
    2. I've never been fortunate enough to try Izzy.

So yeah, I'm a hypocrite, but my hypocrisy only goes so far.

Just me, but I can't remember the last Veritas release I didn't like far, far more than DDG (maybe the tea one?).

But all the sturm und drang here from people who are already out on Lost Abbey coming to share their disdain for the people still in on them is...something.

Imagine if one could practice even the slightest bit of empathy, then you could imagine a world where people go: huh, I don't like this beer, find the pickup practice questionably legal and inconvenient to me, and it's far too expensive...but other people apparently like this beer, find the pickup practice more convenient than waiting in line shitshows, and think the value is there for the price, and that must be why they choose to buy this beer.

But since we don't, it makes perfect sense to unilaterally apply whatever your personal values are onto everyone else and then drive yourself mad at the strange incongruity of the stated action and your personal opinions.

Imagine a world, where we could create a forum, in which it's sole intent is to talk about craft beer and everything involved with it. In this forum, it would be okay if people had different opinions.
