The only way to solve this disagreement is to have telejunkie saw his chiller in half to reveal the filthy burnt spots on his annually baked chiller!

In the meantime, I'll stick with less sketchy cleaning methods.

gotta vent saw that would do the job if your willing to buy a new one to prove your point! The boys at the fire house would love to take that one on.
Instead…i'll take a pic of the stuff that comes out of the next annual bake fest…it's usually fall time. it's not a lot, but there some and usually the chiller performance goes up afterwards.

I don't have a point to prove and you are fishing for a free chiller. I wonder why? Perhaps you've realized your baked chiller isn't as pristine as it should be. :grimacing:

I'll continue to use cleaning methods that can't burn biomass inside my chiller. Purchasers of new chillers should think twice before baking their dirty chiller. That's all I'm saying.

Yes, by all means, bake your chiller at 350F for an hour even if you don't think you need it. I read on the internet this is something to do. So, do it now!

I'd recommend the "oven cleaning" setting (500F+) for a few hours if your shoddy cleaning practices require drastic measures that liquids can't solve. Don't forget to remove the unusually durable stickers before super baking your chiller.

Good luck baking this chiller that Krusty was pumping

The exterior is a garden hose "cleverly disguised" as a coil of copper. Caveat emptor!

Yeah, I don't have to worry about mine clogging, baking it, or even using pbw...I just flush with hot water in place...I wish I could make it more complicated for you (and maybe shinier and less ugly). Mine looks just like this one without the solder and was < $75. These have been around for quite some time, I'm surprised you haven't seen one before.

No reason to replace garden hose with expensive copper as only water goes through the hose, imho
If after many years of use the hose leaks, I might be tempted to replace only the outer garden hose with some hi-temp rubber hose.

That's probably why no reputable homebrew supply vendor sells a cheap CFC with a garden hose exterior...oh wait.

They make much more money selling hard to clean plate chillers and expensive all copper/ss CFCs...like I said, my copper/garden hose chiller has worked great for years and many, many batches

I just wanted to say I'm very passionate about the topic and hope there aren't any hurt feels so far. It probably sucks to get owned by a fat bearded lady in the context of beer.

True. But I'd feel really good about my purchase if I got all that copper that I didn't need for only $80. I'd probably melt it down and start counterfeiting pennies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't plate chiller be CIP with the boil kettle after brew day? Or just rinsed and then before next brew day do CIP through it with chemicals and blow out sanitizer with CO2?
