I was trying to put this bottle release into perspective, it's not about not being able to afford V017, it's a matter or principle. Do you honestly think it costs the Lost Abbey anywhere near $40 to produce each bottle of V017. There are many breweries out there like De Garde, which quite frankly makes better beer than the Lost Abbey at a quarter of the price.

Rick and Morty season 3 is too far away. =(

But at least Archer starts up again in a couple days.

I work in the food manufacturing industry. There are two things I know for sure:

    1. People don't have a f*cking clue what it costs to manufacture products.

    2. #1 is irrelevant because they can charge whatever they want and I can choose to buy it or not. There is no moral principle in play. This not bottled water during an earthquake.

If don't like the price, don't buy it. As I've said many time, I encourage everyone else to boycott.

People keep bringing up de Garde as if they are the rule rather than the exception. Very few breweries are putting out stuff at the price point of de Garde. And I'm still not buying that there are a bunch of breweries offering these types of beers at drastically cheaper prices than Lost Abbey. $41 is most certainly at the high end of the market but it isn't like there are a bunch of other Veritas level sours just floating around the market for $12 a bottle.

There are many, however, that are all sub-$30/bottle.

To add another data point on a related but kind of unrelated topic, I think Lost Abbey really started to lose people on their "because we can" pricing strategy when they shrunk BA Santa's Little Helper from a 22oz bomber to a 375ml bottle and kept it the exact same price or a buck more.

I agree! I stopped buying it. I feel I can get better for the money.

No you're trying to make it a meaningful statement, just stop. See how useful of a statement that is...

I think we have different ideas of afford. If Lost Abbey had charged him 10X (which they basically did to someone it seemed like), then that's a different story. If you can't swing a 3X hold for a week on any discretionary luxury item, beer included, then you shouldn't be buying it. That's just like my opinion, man.

I did too. I haven't purchased/drank anything from Lost Abbey since right before that except for a bottle of that rum-pster fire Santo Ron Diego that was given to me.

Thanks. I thought the issue was a poor track-record company double/triple charging customers. It's good that you have now cleared up that ones financial stability is the issue.

I still need help with this boot on my car and getting nourishment. But it's my fault they charged me four times...

Are they local to where I can just drive and get them? Or do I have to trade/pay to ship/etc? I can't get de Garde without trading a shit ton of beer, and paying to ship beer to someone. Same with Rare Barrel. Almanac around here is $12+ for a 12oz bottle, and isn't LA level sour. Its a double edged sword. Do I spend the extra money on local beer, or pay about the same amount when all is said and done on acquiring/trading/shipping? I have LOVED all the Modern Times sour releases, but they are all close to $30/ea, plus the time/gas to drive down there and back up. Its all relative it seems, no?

I highly doubt that the Lost Abbey has the same kind of overhead as your company or any other typical manufacturing company. Most breweries I have visited have vats/fermenters, some hoses, barrels, and occasionally a small assembly line for bottling. I'm probably missing a few others but that is the bulk of it. I hate to bring up De Garde again but they are a good example of another brewery brewing wild ales. Accordingly, if the manufacturing costs of brewing wild ales were so elevated, then they would be losing money with what they are asking for their bottles.

Just order beer from Belgium, cheaper and better than local beer. I mean this lightly, but I'm serious too, lol.

Perhaps he cant swing a 3x hold for a discretionary luxury item, which is why he was only trying to buy 1 allocation not 3.

I'll say it...you're trying to make a point about a facetious post someone made. The guy isn't starving or destitute man...he's just trying to make a point...which you actually missed I guess??

don't know if you read this awesome Modern Times' thread. http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...egant-people-2016.354855/page-13#post-4316081

Someone asked if he could purchase member beers with his mom's credit card because he doesn't have the money in his checking account due to it not being pay day. Couldn't get his own credit card because of his low low credit score.

At some point you need to balance out what you can purchase realistically. This happens in all hobbies.

But guys, will they have Red Barn on tap on pickup day?
Sorry, I just wanted to bring up another dead horse that we could continue beating.

I almost considered buying a bottle of Red Barn from Lost Abbey when I picked up my Ad Idem bottles. Was going to decorate all around it like a small ceremonial shrine and post a picture here, I just couldn't pull the trigger which is why I bought a V014 instead and shared it. =P
