so after trying some souther tiers earlier in my drinking days and thinking they were way too thick and syrupy for me i decided last night at the bar id try mokah, the other stouts were speakeasy and widmer rasp imp.
wow, i think it is way more chocolaty in both smell and taste then say their chokolat oddly. very smooth and even though it was like a milk chocolate shake with extra syrup i wouldnt consider it overly syrupy at all, contrary to what ive found in the past. i will say though i didnt find much coffee taste there.
odd how a palette can change.

I've wanted to try Mokah for a long time...I found their Javah to be rather short on the coffee flavours as well, and have heard that their Crème Brûlée (French accents? Nailed it!) is over-the-top syrupy. Glad to hear Mokah is perhaps a little better balanced.

Getting the Creme Brulee soon and that will complete my Blackwater series. Can't wait to crack them open in a tasting.

Had Mokah, but it was at a tasting where I got close to violently drunk and it didn't stand a chance against the other beers there so its flavor was probably muddled. I'll give it another go in a more erm... "professional" setting. At least the Blackwater stouts will all be batting in the same league.

Ehhh.. The Mokah was a let down for me. Just not that good.

Creme Brulee is a bit heavy and sugary. Java was okay, but nothing wild. Oat wasn't bad, but Choklat was the best of the bunch if I recall.

Mokah on draft was phenomonal... Out of the bottle it was solid... Big difference between the two in my experience...

i think that is the difference. it was just so creamy and smooth like drinking chocolate milk and the booze was well hidden.. even the stout hating girls i was with said it tasted great and it just smelled great too.
i would like to taste it on nitro tap but i think it will make it smoother but ruin the thick mouthfeel that imho makes the beer.
