Full disclosure up front, I guess I could qualify as a homer as a long time BFF is one of the brewers. I encourage Seattleites to check them out. We were in Seattle last week and finally got to try some of their beers. They're still tweaking their system at the new location and playing around with recipes, but I was totally impressed with several of their brews. First and foremost, their current mosaic pale is phenomenal! Don't sleep on their positron IPA and Rainbow Suspenders DIPA. Obviously no shortage of choices in Seattle, but I expect these guys to go places. Was happy to see some chatter about them in the "best IPAs in Seattle" thread. The brewery is in SODO, just south of the stadiums. Check 'em out! I consider myself a stiff critic and I honestly thought several of their beers were top shelf. Definitely a few that I wasn't in love with though too.

Full disclosure up front for me, too, as I was one of the people responsible for the Seapine chatter on the "Best IPA from WA/Seattle" thread, and I don't have any personal or business connection to the brewers.

Seapine is doing great stuff; and it's a testament to just how good we have it here that such a quality brewery can basically fly under the radar. I will unhesitatingly try their beer every time I see it on tap, based on my experience with them thus far. My only complaints have been: 1.) their beer is not often enough on tap at the places I generally frequent; 2.) they are located about as far as possible from me while still being in the same city limits; and 3.) they can't/don't yet bottle/can.

2.) won't change any time soon, but I hope 1.) and 3.) do.

Went there for a pre-pre-game on NYE. Their Positron IPA was killer.

Complete agreement here. Everything I've had from Seapine has been pretty excellent. Wish I found myself in SoDo more often.

I hadn't so much as heard of them before the IPA thread, but they're definitely on my radar now.

@EdwardAbbey, wouldn't be surprised to see bottles/cans at some point, but until then growlers are pretty damn cheap at the brewery. Although I know that doesn't always suit folks that aren't nearby.

Not sure, but if they'll fill 'em I'll bring some for you tomorrow. Any requests?

yes they do. 32 and 64 oz screw top growlers. At least they did when we were there a couple of weeks ago.

They do have 32oz growlers and will fill others as well.

Definitely have the Positron and the Rainbow Suspenders DIPA is very good as well. For me though, Positron is their standout. Their standard IPA and Saison are also very good.

Big thanks for the heads up. Been in the mood for a saison for a few days so now I know where I'm going to start.

I'm not personally a big fan of the styles (pils, lagers, bocks, marzen, etc) but both brewers at Seapine have a strong background in German style beers, one of which was the previous master brewer at Sudwerk in Davis CA before joining Seapine. So no surprise that their portfolio includes top notch beers of those style too.

It was very good, but the pils was outstanding. To me, that's how you measure a brewer... with the lagers.

I very much respect this point of view, but am curious as to your reasoning. Is it because almost any competent brewer can fashion a lager that is 'clean, crisp, and dry,' but it takes a really great one to fashion one that is robust, flavorful, and distinctive?

There's nowhere to hide with something like a pilsener. There's no big malt or hops to hide behind, so any flaws that exist are going to be obvious. Most brewers will be proudest of their lagers when they nail the style more so than any huge imperial stout or massively hopped ipa.

Was in Seattle this weekend and tried their IPA, it was pretty darn good. Definitely need to make it to the tasting room next time I'm in town.
