Happy Easter NBS players. I'm back at it after a pretty nice beer day/night yesterday and things are looking pretty good for today too. A really nice sunny day here on the island that started out cool but with temps building it should be a very nice spring day. I might have to make a stop in to see some family but other than that I don't plan to do to much.

My first new beer is, once again, thanks to @Prager62 and the two boxes he sent for the nbs bif #3 trade. The beer is Bim Bam Boom, a stout brewed with cocoa nibs, cayenne peppers, and orange, from Short's brewing co. The brew checks in at 7.4% with no apparent bottle dating.

The beer pours black with a fluffy mocha head. The nose is pretty subtle and I mostly get chocolate malts and don't find it to be very floral. The drinking starts with lots of malt, chocolate, and cocoa right upfront with a definite hit of the cayenne pepper on the finish. The more sips I take I start to get the slight citrus notes from the orange. It's a rather subtle flavor but its there for sure. The mouth feel is on the lighter side with a rather fluffy feel to it. The pepper flavor really builds the more I drink and clings to the back of my throat.

Overall, an interesting brew. I thought all the flavors would be a bit to much but they seem to work together just fine. Nothing game changing but still a nicely enjoyable beer. I'm in the mid 3's to a 4 and I think the 85 ba score is pretty accurate.

Glad you enjoyed it. They seem to be getting overshadowed lately, but I really like the ones I've had.

This one in particular really grew on me, and if I were to compare it to something similar it would be Sixpoint's Hi Res. In this case I preferred the Kelso, as long as it was served on the colder side. At that hefty gravity, the maltiness came out more as it warmed.

    Cheers!

    Happy NBS All!!!
Happy Spring, Passover, Easter, and of course Sunday.
Thanks to Maria for the eloquent start.
I am awash in new beer...glorious new beer thanks to the wondrous generosity of our very own @Ozzylizard .
So much good stuff from places as far and wide as PA, NY, and even TX. Where to begin? I shall meditate on that. (Although me thinks it will be something hoppy at first:grinning:)

Good afternoon NBS! As the Easter brunch wears off it's time to try a Sam Adams Cinder Bock. It's my first Rauch Bock I've had. Pours brown, like apple cider, with a thin head. Sweet malt tones dominate at first with a caramel sweetness. Has some smoky notes in there as well.
Overall it's a bit sweet for me, but you wouldn't know it clocks in a 9.4%. Need to seek out other examples of this style to get a better feel for it.

    Enjoy everyone!

I dig homie. Yet I think I dig the Molasses and Smoke of this Imperial Stout...(though not a favorite if the body was more watery). The fuller viscosity of the body adds an enjoyment for me with those notes. Makes me think of drinking BBQ Sauce. I'm weird, so no worries.

    HEY what's going on??

Must be a new beer for Sunday this Easter. Going to be making dinner.. slay that beast out.

I am busy, in laws in town, so out for showing off the cherry trees and making dinner. Good times.

No trip for the Heurich lager at DC Brau, no time.

But I got another local DC Brew...in... just now..

What's new for our hero today? !

    -----------

Poured on tap into a tumbler at Domku.

Bright and cloudy lemon body, real nice yellow hues and darker yellow body. Creamy white topped head, slightly fleeting, manages a good thinight puck as well.

Large peach and watery aroma, with nice tartness. Hints at very light fruit but also powdery grain and dry flour. Very impressive Ester fruit like quality.

Palate manages to stick to the basics. Very light bodies even for a Berliner but flavors still transpire. Mild lemon and peach fruit mid palate flavors. Tangy finish but a little wet with lacking malt density. Finishes quite clean, but also a bit fleeting.

Unique tasting refreshing berliner, but would like some nicer bakery malt quality and depth.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Great Review! This brew is delicious yet for its obscurity doesn't get enough recognition. I found it enjoyable but compared to other RIS, it fares slightly lesser. Cheers!

That is a very cool glass, and from one of the earliest craft breweries I geeked out about outside what was then-available locally. I may need to get me one of those.

    He is Ris'n, indeed!

What better a way to celebrate the resurrection of my Lord (and some of yours, no doubt!) with such a fine beer. It's a brisk 45 degrees out her in Nuhwenjuh with full sun and full Son. After sampling an awesome brunch at one of our favorite 5-star restaurants, I saved room for dessert. And though I contemplated Evil Twin's Even More Jesus (as I'm sure at least one of you will review today), I went with something commemorative, and worthy of praise.

    Enjoy your blessed day, everyone.

Great review. EVERY time I see that glass I think, "he's one generous guy." Everyone else- @Ozzylizard sent me one of those glasses, and I've done many an NBS review out of it.

You know why? Funds. I have to repay a lot of people for their generosity. So beer and shipping is cutting into my reserve. After this, I'm going to start saving for my first love, Music. I would love to BIF (That's what I'm about, screw Trade Values and the such). I like it when people receive a brew and enjoy it. I'm sorry I cannot participate in these NBS BIF's. :slight_frown:

If its annual, I will. Within the next few months...highly unlikely. Me and a few friends are starting a Jam Session that will take up most of my Time...and Money :grimacing:.
