Wow, super shitty. I didnt even look, didn't think anyone would send old beer to a new market. Shitty first impression, maybe I wont give them a second chance.

Just curious, what is that based on? I've never heard of old hops giving off vegetal characteristics, but who knows?

I've had a thousand or so bottles by now (at least) and never had any vegetal notes.

Shorts' beers are definitely super-bitter though. They can have a chewing on an aspirin/back of the tongue bitter that i'm sure is not pleasant for some. I love it, but it is definitely different than most IPAs.

This. I've found that every style of beer Short's makes has a more bitter flavor than other breweries. I'm not a fan of it, so I've avoided most Short's beers. It hit home for me when I first had Noble Chaos. I love Oktoberfest beers, but this one was too bitter for the style and in general.

See Short's, you should have just stayed in Michigan. I can't recall any of us claiming broccoli or veggie flavors in your beers. This thread just seems like an attempt to F with the new kid in class. Sending out old beer is all on you though(not smart)

i havent really bought any shorts regulars in a long time because they always have so many new offering from their specialty and seasonal line up. those are always fresh and never disappoint me. i always remember Huma being very good when fresh but also very bitter. no veggie flavor though.

Agreed - they too tend to be very bitter which I don't mind. For me, Superfluid is pretty darn good. I like Hopstache quite a bit too. MMKAY is above average IMO. I've never had a Shorts beer taste like some of the posts in this thread - I always get them fresh (within like 1 week of their release). There are several Shorts beers I don't enjoy but I really appreciate how they are always pumping out new beers like every other week.

For the record, I'm not bashing Shorts. I wasn't sure if these were the intended flavors. My co-workers and I all tasted it again and agreed it was a bit vegetal as it warmed a little.

We tapped Soft Parade today and it tastes great. I know they make great beers, otherwise they wouldn't be expanding.

I still look forward to trying more of their offerings.

Soft Parade and Bellaire Brown are probably their best regulars in my opinion. tough to beat for shelf beer in those styles.

I've never tasted any Veggie flavors from shorts, and i have brewed w/ year old hops and have not gotten veggital flavors.

As for aspirin, i dont get that either.

I have noticed posts of old bottles being shipped out to the new states. That is not good imo.

and the seasonal 12 pack will not last 6 months in proper storage. Bought one at release, fresh, and bought another two months ago. it did not hold up.

Had a bonafide legit on tap and it was much better. Kinda pissed they sent 6 month old bottles to Costco. IIt's a good beer, but if they are gonna send old beer to Chicago they can keep it in Michigan.

We have to many quality beers here to settle for it.

Even in Michigan some Shorts beers are on the old side. Controversiale is always a good example, I think by the time that it gets to SE Michigan it is 2 months old (bottled late December and released late February at the earliest).

that 12 pack was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2015 in Michigan. At first I just assumed they canceled it or maybe pushed the production date back. I'm shocked they actually made the beer and let it sit for 5 months!! I wondering why the Bonafide Legit tasted like shit.

Considering that fresh Bonafide Legit tastes like first-try homebrew, I doubt the age is playing a role here.

5 or 6 months on a pale or IPA will impact the taste whether you are a fan of the beer or not

Short's just hit Ohio last week.. I haven't had anything from them before this, but I didn't pick up any veggie notes or anything that seemed off.. ControversiALE and Space Rock were good.. I personally wasn't crazy about Huma Lupa, but it's still nice.. the ControversiALE was bottled on 2/3/16 and was drinking fine.. the others were bottled in early March and were fine.. those were the only ones I've had so far, but I still have Bellaire Brown and Soft Parade on deck..

Haven't opened my Controversiale yet, but I had a Huma Lupa and there was nothing noticeably wrong with it. It didn't impress me, but not flawed. Piney, resinous, surprisingly extreme bitterness, but no weird vegetable flavors. The brown ale and Soft Parade also tasted alright, although not impressed either. Also have Space Rock on deck to try.

My controversiale was a drain pour. Literally smelled like raw broccoli and tasted like rotten veggies
