Not unless they start putting "best by" dates on them. That is why most food has best buy dates and most product warranty periods. Then no Pandora's box, buyer knows what to expect when purchased and knows the recourse period.

There should be a reasonable assumption made by the consumer that the beer is not contaminated by a wild yeast strain, and that the brewery did proper quality control testing, which would have revealed that, prior to sale.

It should be noted, the brewery already replaced beer for a similar issue albeit it was a significantly smaller release. Now they are simply denying the issue.

Quality Control does nothing of the sort. Did you miss the Bourbon County debacle?

    Here's an excerpt:

All of our beer goes through a very thorough quality oversight process including sensory and microbiology programs. This by no means is a guarantee of success especially with barrel aged beers. Both of these beers have drifted out of their target character thus leading us to provide refunds for anyone who is unsatisfied with them. Anyone who would like a refund for 2015 Bourbon County Coffee or 2015 Bourbon County Barleywine, please contact us at 1-800-Goose-Me.

Did my own version of an Easter egg hunt this year for my family involving every OddSide BA Stout released in the last year. The goal was to find the bottles, open them, and chug the entire thing if it was Infected.

My dad, brother, sister, wife, and Grandma all went to the ER with alcohol poisoning...

That's terrible. Several times I've taken my girlfriend to the hospital to get her stomach pumped after giving her too much Morningwood

No, I've been in a bubble for the last 6 months.

It really depends if this is the same exact issue that Goose Island had. We don't know, do we?

That sour taste is not limited to BA Beer - Mint Java Chip hit distro in Chicago, bottled on 10.xx.2015...

Beer contained off tastes and was so sour, that six pack will become a drain pour!

Here's a question, why would a beer from October of 2015 be sent to Chicago in the first place? Didn't distribution just start recently in Chicago? And didn't the statement from the brewery suggest that these beers with additives were meant to be consumed fresh?

Exactly my thought. My bad Hipster was bottled 11/18.

I didn't even think to check the date - well until the beer was undrinkable that is.
I sent a message to Odd Side within the hour - not counting on a reply...

My buddy brought a year old Hipster to the Hipster release. I didn't detect any sour notes. Yes, the maple faded but there were no off flavors. Something happened this year. To say whatever happened is normal is not the case here. This is why Goose Island sent out checks to people like me who bought bad beer.

I'm simply pointing out that testing will not necessarily show the beer had been contaminated prior to shipment.

I wouldn't expect to ever get a detailed answer from the brewery if there is something wrong, telling us exactly what went wrong. But who knows, it could happen.

Other than a "tasting panel", what type of quality control does Odd Side even have?

Man you're swinging pretty heavy for a BA who once touted them self as a brewery PROponent.

Other than Hipster Brunch and the ***** of Tart series, I'm not sure how big a "proponent" I have been. But yes, I count Hipster Brunch (when fresh) as one of my favorite beers.

    Please elaborate, I'm curious.

But I do agree in that the vast majority of small breweries likely don't have a microbiologist on staff.

I guess I don't understand why you're implying that they don't do QC if you clearly don't know. This is when the conversation around brewery "infections" starts to annoy me. When it goes beyond "I'm frustrated that the product I bought from the brewery is unsatisfactory" and into "these guys don't even QC their product!"

If GI, one of the longest-lasting and largest barrel-aging programs, can do QC and miss potential down-the-road issues with off flavors in bottles, I think it's probably true that *anyone* can.
