    Hey guys and gals,

Wanted to let you all know about an event coming up on June 18th that we hope you might be interested in. It's called Cheers for Charity and is put on by the Bloomington Rotary Club. All the proceeds go to supporting the charitable endeavors of the rotary.

We're still in the brewery recruitment phase, so this post is a sort of "save the date", but we're hoping to attract 100 breweries and we have space for 2,500 guests. We've sent out an email blast to breweries, so if your favorite brewery isn't yet on our list encourage them to sign up on our website.

One of the coolest things about this event is that it's hosted at the Mall of America, so there is easy parking in the lots provided as well as a light rail drop off right outside the event gates.

Check out our website or facebook page for more info.

We hope to see you there!

That's awesome. Definitely glad to see things like this happening. Anything other than getting the word out that is BAers can do to help?

Best of luck...Nice to have something outside of the downtowns.

If you want people want to return for the 2nd Cheers for Charity:
    1) Limit the tickets so you don't have huge lines and kicked kegs.
    2) You'll need a lot of ice. More than what you are thinking.
    3) Food options.
    4) Plenty of restrooms. We're drinking beer.
    5) Have a well-orchestrated entry system (e.g. check ID and hand out wristbands well before dropping the rope).
    6) Plenty of rinsing stations and water to drink.

    Anyone else want to add?

The main thing will be encouraging breweries to attend. Since we are new, some can be reluctant to add another event to the schedule. We think the date we've chosen puts us far enough away from other events like Great Taste and ABR so we hope many will be able to attend.

In the future we are going to be looking for event volunteers, but in the meantime just liking or sharing the facebook page would be awesome!

Thanks for the tips! We do have a number of BA members on the planning committee giving input on what they want to see in a festival.

We will have food trucks on site! We have port-a-potties, hand wash stations, and igloo water-cooler/rinse stations lined up already.

I think number 5 is a huge one and I've stressed to the committee how well events like ABR are run where you check ID in one place, get your program and tasting glass in another and then form up in line at the gate ready to head in once the clock strikes :grinning:

Thanks again for your tips and support!

Wanted to give an update to this and let everyone know that in addition to landing TG we also have Summit on board as of yesterday. I see that their Saga IPA is a big hit in the forums so I'll request that they bring that

Just wanted to give this a quick update - if you guys are sick of seeing this please let me know.

In the past month we've made some great strides - we're happy to announce that Surly has confirmed and will be pouring beer at the event. In addition to them we've got Town Hall, Toppling Goliath, Sisyphus, Indeed, Summit, Fair State, Schell's and many more.

This is shaping up to be an awesome event at the MoA. Should be plenty of beer to drink and lots of fun for beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike.

Tickets are on sale now at - http://www.cheersforcharity.com/

    Cheers!

Will an event program on the beers being poured be available a few days before the event online? Many BA's (including myself) often skip festivals that don't list which beers will be served. Festivals that don't have a program are usually serving mostly easily found core/shelve beers.

Yes, there will be a program and I'll make sure that it gets posted on our website. So far most of the breweries haven't confirmed a tap list with us and we don't need to know until the first week of June so that we can get programs printed in time. We aren't requesting/requiring rare beer from the breweries. We certainly hope that they bring some fun and exciting stuff but that part we are leaving up to them with the caveat that if they do bring something special we will recognize them for it in the program and via social media, so hopefully that entices a few breweries to do something special.

Our main goal is to create something fun on the south side of town that is easily accessible via public transit (the light rail stop will drop you off at the gate) and to raise a bunch of money for charity.

Any updates on specialty beers for this event?

Right now we have 49 breweries signed up, it's getting too close to really add many more so that's where we'll end up for this year.

    Some highlights (IMO)
    • Town Hall - Mango Mama and Double Dry Hopped West Bank
    • Forager Brewing - Urban Hops (Citra Pale Ale) and some specialty crowlers TBD
    • Toppling Goliath - Pseudo Sue and Pompeii
    • Surly - Cacao Bender and #Merica
    • 56 Brewing - Walnut Joy (I remember really enjoying this when someone shared a growlette recently)
    • Bank Brewing - Hop Lab Purple made with a new hop called Jarrylo (they just brewed it last week so will be very fresh)
    • Sisyphus - whatever @Oneeighthcuban has cooking up, always love their stuff
    • Modist - Cold Press coffee lager
    • U4ic - Blakely Chernilla Stout - Stout brewed with vanilla, cherries, and served on nitro
I think this will be a good opportunity for a people to try breweries/beers they might not have checked out yet. For me personally I haven't had a chance to get to Modist, Lakes & Legends, or Insight so all three of those are exciting. I know there's been talk on the forums about places such as Forager, Sidhe, and U4ic, so people may want to give those guys a shot also. We also have four cider houses on the list - Number 12, Milk & Honey, Lionheart, and Sociable.

Yes, tickets are $25 each through tomorrow! They can be purchased here.

Also just got word that TG will be bringing DDH Sue to the event so if you missed out on bottles locally, come try it with us!

We've got food trucks and MoA restaurants lined up, games, live music, and all the beer you can stomach. Come support a great cause!

    Cheers!
