I tried it and really didn't care for it, I would say just get a bottle and age it to see if it may get better.

I am. Thought it was hot fresh (overall: average) and didn't plan on picking another up. Ended up getting another for a present so I'm just going to forget about it for a couple years.

Same here. My local bottle shop has 4 boxes of this stuff and it's not moving at all

I tried a bottle and it smelled and tasted like a trash can containing rotting vegetables. Anyone else have this experience?

Seem to recall plenty of plastic, acetone and sugar. No veggies, but I can't remember what the symphony of trash can and rotting veggies it like, so...probably.

EDIT: to the OP, I did not find this beer enjoyable, so I did not buy more than one. My opinion is do not buy or age this. Maybe a year from now, when it's in the discount cart for $1.99, try it.

HOLY CRAP what is wrong with you people?! Seriously? This was one of the greatest barley wines I have tasted in ages! I kept bugging my distributor for a case and we finally got one, it was awesome! In an effort to move this item that has no official place on the shelf, I recommended it to a few of my favorite customers and they had nothing but rave reviews! Some of them even insisted on buying another bottle for themselves or a friend, despite my halfhearted insistence that these are MINE. So suffice it to say, I was only able to score 1 case, and I could not keep it on the shelf(actually backroom shelf)! If I could buy another five cases I would keep them for myself! I came here for info about cellaring, and I think I found my answer, enjoy it now, while I can, here sits the last bottle... I will save it for the most special occasion that arises within the next 7 days!!

I've been curious to try it, but I just haven't had much faith in Sam Adams stuff. I know their base line has nothing to do with the quality of their unique stuff but it still sits in the back of my head "It's Sam Adams" every time I see a bottle. Maybe when the prices fall I'll grab a couple. Here in Atlanta it's pretty easy to find.

I totally was yelling, and I found my special occasion, I ran out of vodka last night... I wish I had a more special occasion than that... maybe I can snag my co-workers bottle he hasn't drank yet, I would be doing him a service by not letting him taste it, because we cant get anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

This is perhaps the most boring 11.5% beer I've ever come across. It'd be a fairly affordable cellar experiment, though.

I am one of the seemingly few who enjoyed this beer. It was a bit odd for a barleywine, but still pretty tasty in its own right. I thought the Nelson sauvin hops were super juicy pineapple and mango. I have no idea where people are getting this garbage taste from. I did find it to be pretty sweet though. I am not sure how aging this beer would benefit it in any way. I don't remember the malts being particularly interesting. I think the hops fading over time will leave a pretty bland beer. But as others have pointed out, it would be pretty cheap to try it out.
