Lately everybody around me has been getting the Unibroue "Somellier Selection" 6-packs that have (I think) Trois Pistoles, La Fin du Monde, Don de Dieu, Maudite, Blonde de Chambly, and La Resolution.

Weyerbacher has a "Big Beers" variety pack that includes Double Simcoe IPA, Tiny Belgian Imperial Stout, Blithering Idiot Barleywine, and Merry Monks Tripel. I haven't had the DIPA, but the rest of them are very nice. (The barleywine is not for hop-heads however, it's all malt, tasting like Old Chub with alcohol forward.)

Sierra Nevada's 4-way IPA is perfect for me.

I love the idea of a variety pack, but don't really care for the actually variety in almost all of them. So this is one is far and away the best IMO.

Ill 4th or 5th the SN mixed packs. I really enjoyed the Summer mixed pack (Nooner, kolsch, kellerweis and pale ale) last year and I'll be getting another one or four this summer.

I recently saw a six pack Unibroue, each beer different. Was tempted but it was also 16 dollars :/

I just had one of these, it was totally worth the $$, loved every beer in the pack. I think I am going to pick up another on payday! It is a chunk of change for six beers. Cheers!!

I've never seen it contain Ten Fidy. The Canundrum pack if usually just DPA, Pils, Old Chubb. Is there another type of variety pack they do that contains Ten Fidy?

That said, even with just those 3 beers, it's arguably my favorite variety pack. Normally, I like the ones that give me 4 different beers, but those 3 are stellar so I dig.

My one hang-up with variety packs is that it’s often difficult to gauge the freshness of the hop-forward beers included in it.

What’s everyone’s experience with the freshness of the hop-forward beers included in the variety packs you buy? Do you typically find them to be just as fresh as that beers’ own sixpack would be, old, or simply fair/adequate freshness still worth spending money?

I've never had a problem with SN packs (4 way IPA, Tropical, Torpedo), I recently bought a Summit Saga IPA 12 pack, no date on the box, just the bottles, but they're relatively close by to where I live. The bottles were set to expire in about 2 weeks, so lesson learned. Oskar Blues, Sam Adams, and Boulevard are the only other variety packs around here, and while Sam's stuff has always been fresh, I rarely buy the last three brands.

I think this is what I'll start doing. just making custom six or 12 packs with seasonal beers so they are more or less guaranteed to be fresh.

My son picked it up for me. I never saw the packaging, he unpacked it and put the cans in the fridge. I was just looking and their current pack is Old Chub, Pinner, DPA and Pils.
