New beer/place profile layouts

    It looks like there was another change to the website. Previously I would click "link" and it would scroll down to my review so I could see what I said about a beer. It was very useful when people would ask recommendations about a certain beer. The current setup shows my rating but I don't see a quick way to link to my review. Any advice?

    So far the only way to get to your review quickly is to tap the edit button.

    We have also lost easy access to the date the review was entered if there's something you want to double check about that.

    Yeah, I noticed the "link " link was gone too. And the font at the top menu is different, not that that's a big deal. Miss the link though.

    The Link button is missing from the Places reviews/ratings too. I assume a quick click of the Edit is the only way to get to your review/rating quickly.

    anybody else hate the new page setup on the individual beer page? when did that happen?
    IMO a very weird move. What was wrong with the old setup?

    mods feel free to move this where it belongs.

    I didn't realize they changed it so I can't help you with when but it must have been recent. As to the new set up, I am adamantly ambivalent towards the new set up.

    I don't think the new design is bad, but I do think the older one looks cleaner.

    I don't mind the new set-up, I'm sure it will grow on me. I think I was so accustomed to seeing the old one on a regular basis that this one will seem odd for a while.

    It changed a few days ago. Not sure if it's layed out the same on a PC, but on my iPad all the stats and whatnot are now on the left-hand side of the screen, and the photo is on the right side. The "Link" hotlink is also gone from mine, making it a pain to go back and find my own review.

    Not a huge deal, but agreed that the old setup was better.

    I noticed it last week. Doesn't bother me much - I'm sure in a week or so, I'll be completely used to it.

    Didn't even notice it, honestly, but now that I know it is different I it looks OK. The rating, the description, then the picture more or less flows from right to left. My iPad hates BA anyway, so I try to do most things on my laptop.

    I can pop up my own review using the "edit" button...that's how I've always found them anyway. I didn't know there was a hotlink feature elsewhere that is now missing, so I guess I don't miss it...

    It used to be directly next to the Edit link. It would basically refresh the page so that your review was on top, and the other reviews were sorted by the number of Likes afterward, I believe.

    That is what my spreadsheet is for :wink:

    @do_ob ... I never, ever hit the button next to edit. I can see where I would miss that now. Hopefully an oversight that gets fixed.

    And on the Place pages, I am not a huge fan of the combining of the Places Stats (Score, Reviews, Ratings, Avg, pDev) with the Place Info (Taps, Bottles/Cans, Cask, To go) - I would love a bit of separation from a usability perspective... Too much info in too confined a space.

    Correct. I made quite a few changes to the beer/place profile pages on desktop last week. The old layout was just that; old, blocky, clunky, inconsistent, scores/stats were scattered and nothing flowed well. So the new layout addresses that, and I cleaned up some old HTML syntax too.

    Other updates:
    • Misc styling tweaks.
    • New default images for beers/places with no pics.
    • Pic status and tools moved to the Tools sidebar.
    • A link to "View" your review is now next to Edit.
    • View will now take you to your review vs. just reloading the page and ordering yours first.
    • Links to your reviews appearing on other pages will also take you directly to your review now too.
    • Spacing added within the beer/place stats.
    Like with any change, I don't expect everyone to like it. But a change was long overdue, and we'll continue to make adjustments as needed.
