It's all about that fresh Sunday morning Barbacoa. That alone is a reason to recommend that spot.

 

I think you just named a future HPB beer...

 

Hmmm, putting in the address for his resting place yielded the one near griffith park. I'll have to recheck then.

 

The one near griffith park is the Hollywood hills, but there is another forest lawn facility closer to HPB. I think you can find Michael Jackson at the other one.

 

Ah, ok, the one I initially was looking at was the hollywood hills location so my initial plan was correct.

 

That I have never done...but would give them another try for that, for sure

 

Had it. The, now gone, huitlacoche taco at Cacao was far superior, to my tastes (I realize tacos are not huaraches, but in general I'd take numerous local sopes (again, I know they're not huaraches, but they're definitely in the same vein) over the huaraches there.

That said, this isn't about bashing the place, I know Jonathan Gold was long a fan and it's always packed, so they gotta be doing something right, I've just been overwhelmed on four different trips there and, aside from perhaps going back to check out the barbacoa, will stick to the places I think are better.

 

i see.. wasn't aware of their fan base etc. i find their QPR far superior to Maximilano.

 

It's pretty great. The chile paste that goes on top is fantastic!

 

I don't think you're alone there, but I'm not among that group. Anyway, dead horse and all, Highland Park is great and getting better all the time, and The Hermosillo / HPB are a shining jewel in that neighborhood, not to overstate it.

Ask for the 'salsa seca'...they don't give it out unless you ask, but it is fucking perfect.

It is, but you're going to have to deal with the wrath of the roach coach crew. They don't look kindly on folk impeding on their territory.
