How's it looking in there? Any indication (besides the cascade) someone is trying to pick up the beer buyer reins?

Cascade was on the shelf at WFP:

    Sang Rouge $34
    Figaro $39
    Black Raz $34

Will be interested to see if these fly off the shelves or if they turn into shelf turds like many other markets they've entered.

I bet they sell pretty well, at least for a while. People in this area still snap up Tilquin 750s, Bon Chien, and allagash sours pretty quickly in the same price range, and the Terreaux unfruited sours at ~$22/750.

I imagine the independent places that have to mark stuff up more will have trouble eventually, as an extra 15% is pretty noticable in that price bracket. I wonder if they show up in quantity at VA TW/WF/Wegmans during the first round of deliveries...

. Not willing to pay that for those. Even if I was, my wife would kill me.

Big difference between the prices of all those bottles you named and $34-39 though. They might go quickly at first because people are curious, but trust me they will soon sit around just like they do in NYC.

No, unfortunately not. Other than that Cascade (which Randy ordered before he left), nothing new has really hit the shelves in 1.5 weeks and empty spots are starting to pop up in the display. Randy had it buttoned up and looking perfect.

If this Randy guy is so wonderful, why have two stores in a row let him go? I mean I sort of know the Whole Foods story. But what's the CW story?

    Two pages back.

Also, I don't think it's fair to say "why have two stores in a row let him go." Seems like a personal jab at him when Whole Foods was dropping beer buyers across the board. I've only been to WF P St. a handful of times, so I have no idea if the quality of the beer department has declined since he was let go, but there was a very noticeable improvement in the beer selection at CW since Randy started there.

$/oz those are about the same, Tilquin Quetsche 750s are $35 if you see them. I didn't specify, but I meant the Apricot/Blueberry tier at $27 on a shelf (if that's what it ends up being). Agree that their top (pricing) tier stuff is not very tempting at those prices at all. To me the best news of this is potential to get pours, Kysela does a great job getting keg placements, especially with limited and expensive stuff.

Correct, (taking a pretty lucrative buyout on job A) + (Leaving job B) =/= two stores letting someone go

So does he have a third job lined up? I'd never just leave a job unless I had something else lined up. But that's me.

The Whole Foods story is that they fired pretty much everyone over 40 and consolidated jobs on account of the company doing so poorly (plus he told me he didn't really like working under their corporate yolk) - now the stores are full of youngsters who are doing 3 or 4 peoples' jobs themselves.
