Thinking more of Odell IPA, Great Divide Titan, and Ska Modus Hoperandi. Beers that don't need to be turbid to be delicious.

I don't care if a beer is unfiltered or not, but if there is a good reason to make an unfiltered beer than I'm all for it. I just want a lot of good options.

Just add some wheat in the grain bill and call it unfiltered.

I agree and Disagree at the same time.Hazy - can mean opaque, clouded, & unclear.

Think you are fighting a battle that can never be won like all of use liking the small beers and having the same exact opinion on it.

Funny. I was thinking how great it would be if East Coast would filter their beers.

To each their own. That's why we love craft beer isn't? Variety.

Yeah, but hazy means you can still see through. Like on a hazy summers day around here, you can still see Mt. Baker out in the distance. In the winter, the opaque clouds won't let you see through to glimpse Koma Kulshan.

A clear superfan wouldn't taste the same.

that enjoy by 4.20.16 is super clear and it is awesome. I wouldn't change it. But I do love some hazy NE stuff as well

You are also fighting against the sytem trying to change it now. Words like "Hazy" &/or "cloudy" have been used in the industry for decades man!

Here is an old cover from the New Yorker that gives an idea.

I know, but they still had a meaning different than what the current trend is using the term to mean. Sometimes a beer suffers from "chill haze" when it's too cold. Doesn't mean that when you hold it up to the light, ya can't see the light source through it.

    No, no & no.

What's nice about these beers is that they're clean, crisp, & dry. Just about every unfiltered West Coast IPA I've had has a mealy & chalky mouthfeel. Not every unfiltered IPA is going to turn out like Trillium & Tree House.

Although, on second thought, I do remember freaking awesome hazy Plinys on draft before RRBC started bottling that were phenominal. Hmmmmm....

But that where all this came from its just the same term to an extreme.

I see what you are getting at but this term has been coined

I like my West Coast IPAs to taste and look like West Coast IPAs. I have had plenty of the NE style IPAs, and while they are tasty and I enjoy them, I see no reason why they should be copied or emulated.

Would be a neat idea if a brewery made the same exact beer in both styles for a comaprision.

Well, Stone did with Enjoy by.

The fact that this topic has been beaten to death means there's a underlying demand, and probably a big market for it. If there could be a real contender to Trill/TH out west, it would be enormously successful. For a current brewer to try it would be risky. They have to want to just because brewing different style sand exploration in it of itself is worth the risk of failure.

props to the 1st one to it.

Odell IPA... one of the most under-appreciated IPAs out there (also one of my personal favs).
