No whales but about 6 months ago I was shopping at my local farmer's market who has a decent brew selection to grab a quick sixer on the way out. They usually have some outdated singles on a shelf, likely from sixers that got broken. I always do a quick check and I was pleasantly surprised to see a handful of each Goose Island Sofie, Matilda, and Pepe Nero from 2012 and 2013 12oz. bottlings. No pricing so I took them to the counter and was told I could have them for $0.99 each. Bought all 14 on the shelf and felt pretty good about that score. All were still delicious, especially the Sofie.

I don't have any really good finds, but a good friend of mine hit the jackpot last spring. He was visiting the WOB in West Palm Beach. He found Left Hand's Fade to Black 1 there. He bought all 4 bottles of it to take home, and enjoy.

I work for a brewery and it was one of my sales reps accounts that he found it at. Pretty sure it was Mendez Meat Market in Perris but I can find out for sure after I speak to my rep.

Please enlighten me. I saw that on the mix-a-six shelf at a local grocery store last fall. I wasn't aware that it was supposed to be anything special. I bought one, thought it was average. Come to think of it, I haven't seen it anywhere since.

The same store has or had St. Bernardus Abt. 12 for $12 a 4-pack. I've never seen it anywhere else locally, but it's always at least double that online.

Well, I've never had it, but, according to him, it was a big find. I'm just taking his word for it.

I did get 2 bottles of Matilda for free because the bev buyer at my store thought it was too old to sell. My friend also gave me a sixer of Pure Hoppiness because he said it was too bitter. Other than that, no hidden whales quite yet.

I think I'd rather have the display. That thing is pretty bad ass.

I know its probably not the best of deals (I think its a pretty good one though) but one supermarket I frequent on the visit to and fro my girlfriends apartment in Maine ALWAYS has Stone Bombers 2/$10.00.

Seriously?? I've only seen five bottles on the shelves and you had to buy two six packs to have the "opportunity" to buy one BCBS. I'd pick up 5+ just for trades.... maybe another few to age past 5 years to see what happens.

Is that a Bourbon County keg lid too?

About $4.50 for a 4pk of Backwoods Bastard (think it registered as the individual bottle price) and $9.5 for GI Lolita. At another place by me I got bottles of Almanac Dark Pumpkin Sour for $4 each. Also 750s of Westmalle Tripel for $7 (bought 6 of 'em) at yet another place, all within the past year.

It's great living in a neighborhood that's just beginning to gentrify: they're bringing in craft beer but don't know what to price it at.

Went to California last year for the first time since I had been this much into craft beer. Asking stores for days about pliny, nope nope nope no one. It's OK I figured it was a diamond in the rough since I wasn't anywhere near San Diego or up north either, I was In Ventura. Went to total wine to get some beer, asked the girl if they had any pliny the elder and she says, yep just came in today and propped a bottle out from behind the counter. I almost cried. Lol. After that went to whole foods across the street and checked out the beer Isle, no pliny but some cool stuff. Saw a dude stocking Vegables and stuff. Asked him too, he replied ya I might have some in the back, and brought me out a bottle also! I was like nooooo way. Even my stepbrothers who go to lagunitas and stone regularly were like, dude where did you find that! I went back to total wine everyday for the next 3 days I was there and my wife and I each got a bottle each day.

Nothing extraordinary but it's all i've got. We just started getting Founders distro in CA last Nov. All shops have Breakfast Stout for $12.99 except for one which had it for $17.99. One day I asked the clerk if they sell a lot of it and mentioned they're the only ones not selling it for $12.99. He said he really hadn't noticed. I just went in there last week and he came over to me and said "here I want you to have this" and handed me a 4 pack of Breakfast Stout for free. He said they had mistakenly had it mismarked and wanted to say thanks for pointing their mistake out.

I'm not sure what you mean by 15/16's.. but they were right around a year old. I believe a couple of the 4 packs had dust on them, but the others were clean. I suppose the dusty bottles were in the cooler, but they all tasted great.

I was a little unsure about the price, and when I asked the clerk about it, she said they weren't moving them at all.

Word around my house is: it doesn't take much to make a beer lover happy. Coupons, whacky sales, and clerks, all make craft beer available to search out and find that brew on special.

Brooklyn BCS is a winter release. 15/16 means it was released last fall for this winter. 14/15 would make it a year old ect.. 49.99 sounds like a case price to me. Needless to say you lucked out.
