Back home in Boston Pilsner Urquell was ubiquitous. Sold in supermarkets alongside Heinecken and Becks. I am quite fond of drinking it in the summer. However here in Seattle I can't find it anywhere, including fine stores like Wallingford Bottleworks and my personal local, The Last Drop Bottle Shop. Anyway, given that it is imported to the US from the Czech Republic I'm surprised it's not universally available. Anyone know what's up with their distributors / availability? A man can't live on IPA alone...

You wouldn't find Miller High Life at Bottleworks or The Last Drop, why would you expect to find Pilsner Urquell? Have you tried Safeway?

Yeah, i would try a supermarket rather than a specialty shop. Unless the specialty shop has a decent lager import selection. Which some do in Portland.

It's an SABMiller beer. You're not going to find it in specialty stores.

I hate to say it.... but we do have it at The Last Drop. It randomly came in with some New Castle. =[

PU is widely available from most big grocery stores.
Though i no longer see it in the cans, which in my opinion is the best way to drink it here.

    Haters gonna hate.
Yes, I have tried Safeway and QFC. Sure, Pilsner Urquell is SABMiller. Do specialty stores refuse to carry Franziskaner and Leffe because they're InBev?
Feel free to suggest mid-ABV Czech-style pilsner alternatives.

Pilsner Urquell was a grocery store beer in King County back in the mid 90's and earlier. Has something changed?

Doesnt PU have some new "fresh-centric" (à la their recent ad campaign) packaging for their sixers that looks totally different? I thought I remembered some guy last week walking out of the supermarket (Fred Meyer or QFC) with something that resembled a small paper tank with "express shipped cold only" or something explicitly on the side. In other words, I'm not sure how long ago the packaging changed, but this might also make it more challenging to spot if the old packaging looked considerably different.

I just saw it at the Roosevelt Safeway 10 minutes ago.

Pilsner Urquell was a "grocery store" brand long before being acquired by SABMiller. While there might be some exceptions, most specialty stores that I've worked with over the years, do not want to carry brands that were widely available in the supermarket channel.. regardless of who owned them. It has been my observation that Urquell has actually lost some distribution since being acquired by SABMiller, at least in the Northwest (purely anecdotal by the way, but I have worked a LOT of shelf resets in my day).
