I'm starting this thread since it's a completely different discussion than what the black Friday thread was originally about. I'm hoping it will get more exposure and I hope Oddside will do the right thing about the issues with Hipster, BB Mayan Mocha, and anything further. We all know they are a smaller brewery and don't have the pockets that Goose Island does to issue blanket refunds. It is also not fair to the consumer to have beers turning tart 3.5 months after purchase and have to eat the dollars spent on this release with no recourse. Hipster was one of my favorite beers and I bought a bit to last me until the next release. I don't remember there being an issue with the '14 batch so there was a reasonable assumption that this beer would last for a while and well, this is not even 6 months since purchase. I just don't find this acceptable at all. I was a huge Oddside fan, but they should do something about this issue or risk losing customers.

The main risks associated with aging an imperial stout with adjuncts should be oxidization and flavor loss. Sadly, these aren't the problems with the 2015 batch of BBAIMM. (I have minimal skin in the game on this one, being down to less than a 4 pack of this particular beer. I do, however, have more than half a case of Hipsters and a full case of Hazel's that are now making me kind of nervous....)

Many have done that already and are apparently receiving a packaged response.

Oddside Ales even came on here and posted the following from the original event thread about this topic: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...ay-bottle-release.354019/page-12#post-4628064

They know. MANY people have contacted them, people are even hassling staff members that have no say in what happens on the business side of things. From the sounds of it they have washed their hands of the whole incident.

I do think it is shady as hell when they sell with no limit then when it goes bad say "oooooops you bought to much. Sorry its not like you expected".

I was hit and miss with them as it is, but if that is how they want to treat their customers then they have one less.

I did but I don't expect a response any different than the one posted here hence a more public call-out.

    Straw man argument.

Even if it doesn't get much (or any) attention from OSA, I think there have been enough reported incidents for folks to use this thread as a separate venue for discussion besides the Black Friday thread.

I haven't had any bad bottles yet, but have one more Hipster that I don't plan on let sitting around much longer.

Thanks for that as I did not see it when it was posted. I've tried to be a vocal backer of Oddside on BA but if that is the response & my beers also have tart issues then I can't continue supporting them. I travel a lot for work so I'm not home right now but I'll be home in a week & will be trying the Hipster, Hazels & Mokka's that I have and if they have tartness or other infection like qualities then they will likely be the last bottles that I get from them

Drank two BBAIMM's the other day.
One from a Honey Hole where it has been sitting refrigerated since release. The other from my cellar (basement in MI), that i moved to the fridge a week or so ago.
My comments were the one that was refrigerated since release was smoother and had less "bite" right off the bat, when still cold. Both were still very drinkable, it wasn't a BCBCS situation (for me or my drinking mate).
As they warmed I found that the bottles got closer, in a good way. I personally did not detect any sourness or "infection", but, that's just me, man...

This is ridiculous. What says every beer you buy will always be awesome? I love how people will buy tons of beer from a limited release and get grumpy when it doesn't taste exactly as it did when they first bought it.

So you're saying there is no chance of a problem here? I don't doubt that there can be some level of groupthink involved with people having this beer and thinking it's sour, but I wouldn't call the whole thing ridiculous and assume everyone is lying.

It's been gone over many times in the other Odd Side thread, but these beers shouldn't be turning sour after 4 months. I don't know of any other stout that has a shelf life of that amount of time. Trying to turn the blame on people that bought a bunch of the beer is ridiculous. The quantity of the beer bought shouldn't matter - whether it's me with my 3 bottles or it's the guy in the Kia with over 25 cases, the beer shouldn't be going bad.

Beer is an agricultural product. Keep it cold. Drink it fresh. Every time you chuck a beer in the basement or put it in the bottom of a closet you're taking a chance that the ingredients inside could go bad or change to a flavor that is unpleasant. If I put a pizza on the kitchen table for 3 days and I take a bite and it still tastes good am I going to be like "DAMN DOMINOS MAKES THE BEST PIZZA EVER IT TASTES GOOD AFTER 3 DAYS ON A TABLE!". But if it tastes bad am I supposed to call Dominos corporate and tell them I want my money back because my old pizza tasted like shit?

We age beers to see what happens. We're spoiled that a lot of beers do change their flavors and still taste good. But when one doesn't follow that logic we want to burn a brewery down? You guys are insane.

Who said it's going bad? Have you had it? Is it undrinkable?

ask the guy that dumped 14 bottles. I think he would say it's undrinkable.

I've had two bottles, both have been fine. But, there are many others that have had bad bottles. It's one thing for flavors to dissipate, but for them to turn sour - you think that's what is supposed to happen to beer after 4 months?

    Lots of hyperbole there.

If you think it's an acceptable risk for beer (a stout, in particular) to be undrinkable and sour after 4 months, I can understand your position. I'd be interested to know if anyone ever had communication with Odd Side prior to this about the expected shelf life of these beers. My guess is no, but I would also guess they wouldn't have said it needed to be consumed within 3 months.
