Local liquor store where I live had several cases of Bigfoot and narwhal for $7 a CASE because they were a year old

Not a deal I found, but one I missed...last week was in a local bottle shop and got talking to the guy at the counter about Prairie Bomb! variants (was buying Pirate) when he said that the regular Bomb! doesn't sell so he had just sold off a case on the closeout table. They normally closeout stuff and well under half price, but could not bring myself to ask how much they went for or how many days I missed them by. Bet someone snapped up the case. I am eyeing a slow moving case of Bomb! at my local liquor store that are marked down to $6.99 now, should offer them $4ea for the rest of the case.

Not a screamin' deal and not even an impressive beer, but the girl who snagged it was happy. In february the local grocery store had christmas packs of Stella Artois marked down to $4.99. Two chalices and a bomber. I'd have snagged it for the glassware but she got the last one. She was giddy. I already have 8 stella chalices (wife's a huge Stella fan, we've had many kegs of it) so no big loss.

While sitting in a brewery I go to about once a week, I decided to give the guest bottle list a longer read through than I normally do, since I normally just go for draft. After some time, I found myself going back to one item in particular, then once more, no twice, maybe five times to get my mind up to speed and to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me: "does that really say Thomas Hardy's?" I asked if they had just gotten it in, but apparently it had been on that list for longer than any of the current bartenders had even worked there.

I had been looking for it for quite a while, and it was right under my nose literally since before it had ever been on my radar.

It certainly was not cheap, however.

Last week they had like 10 cases of Summit saga IPA for $7 a CASE also, a friend of mine bought every case they had. It's one of the few benefits of living in a town where craft beer hasn't really caught on yet. It's also real easy to get my hands on limited releases because nobody is willing to pay that much money when it's "just beer"

Strolled in to one of my go to shops about a week before Xmas and went straight to the back where all the craft beer is kept. Grabbed a 4 pack of CWBBS or something like that, and a few other stouts and went up to the counter. Guy checking me out said "you know we just put out a little gift box with some rare beers over there" I had walked right past this box on my way in filled with BA Darkness, Reg. Darkness, BCBS and Nien. They had just put it out 10 minutes before I walked in. 2 weeks later and I found another box. This time it was BA Darkness, BCBS, Xoceveza Charred and Nien. Still have most of them chilling underneath the stairs!

Two each of Chimay Red, White and Blue were put out on the pick a six for $9.99 shelves, so, I left with six.

Sometime last December I came across some bombers of BA Narwhal at a local beer/liquor store for $8 each. I have no idea why they were so cheap, but I definitely grabbed four of them.

Another time towards the end of Summer last year I was at the same store, though in a different town, and the store owner offered me four bombers of Pumking for free. I asked why and he said he just wanted them out of his store. I obliged.

Nothing out land-ish, but just had a good mix six haul. Went into a grocery store that has a history of having some pretty good stuff every now and then. Well, they had four bottles of 2016 Bigfoot on the mix six rate, which has a flat fee of $9. So I got the four of those and two other bottles of things I've wanted to try for a while, but didn't want to get a whole six pack of.

The most amazing beer find was an unopened bottle of Ballantine Barley wine labeled privately for the "fin and feather club" a hunting club. Brewed in 1946...and bottled in 1966...

I bid on it on ebay...I bid 76$....it sold for 77.50...If I would have just bid higher I would have known what it tasted like, I'm still curious to this day.

Found the exact location of the place, walked in and bought a couple bottles right now. 76 bottles left. You willing to drive to Fontana?

LOL no. I live up in the East Bay. I was down near Anaheim in December and I saw a place with a very similar display. Thanks though.

If you look at my avatar, you'll see me drinking one of them...

In all honesty, I WISH I had bought them all, then we'd both be enjoying the bounty of my wise decision, but alas, I only bought two with the intention of going back...

Similar to The OP, around 3-4 years ago, I stopped by a liquor store that sold mostly BMC and came across 2 4packs of BCBS from 2008. I bought one 4pack for $16 and the other a week or two later, as it might have sat around for a couple more years. The clerk noted that is was really expensive beer. I have stopped back on Black Friday and never seen another Bourbon County.

At another rural store nearby, a few years back, I have come across KBS and King Henry sitting on the shelf. Must have been before many others in town were into craft beer, as now they have waiting lists for KBS, BCBS, etc.
