$1000 a month in booze??! Awesome, gonna tell my wife so my spending looks comparatively less.
"See honey, there's an actual club for people who spend a G a month at the chain store total wine."

 To be shared amongst many friends. Local shop (not a craft beer store) got a couple cases "by mistake" and were happy to get rid of one case to me.

Went to a couple of shops last night and they were sold out. They each got one case, which was gone in less than an hour. One of the employees at the first shop offered me the bottle he had saved for himself. I thought is was a nice gesture on his part. I know he was just doing his job, but I passed anyway.

What I don't get is that last year, I was able to get a four-pack of this with no problem. And I don't remember paying a crapload of money for it, either.

Two years ago I did a side-by-side of Bourbon County and KBS, and Bourbon County was the clear winner. I like KBS but always find it a bit thinner than what I'm looking for in a BA stout. Only had Parabola once, but again prefer Bourbon County.

Picked up a couple of 4-packs of KBS for $23-24 each.

Opened one bottle last night and really enjoyed it. For someone like myself who doesn't eat chocolate, sweets or dessert, it had plenty of chocolate taste in it. Coffee was definitely noticeable and welcome. As for heat/booziness, I drink a fair amount of heavy ABV BA stuff with relative frequency, so the so called 'heat' was also welcome (nothing like the heat I got from Rare '15 or some of the fresh Pipeworks BA stuff). Glad I picked up the 2 4-packs. I'll probably end up drinking them all within the next few months because I do prefer the 'heat' on KBS when it's fresh.

Throw back to last year's side-by-side that was not a fair match at all. BCBCS made KBS seem like water.
Maybe this year's side-by-side will be a better match.

I did the same with last year's batch, although I wouldn't quite say KBS seemed like water...just more of a poor man's version of BCBCS. Still very good.

As for this year, I'm not sure it's even worth doing considering the BCBCS was infected...although you might get lucky.

You're right. I like KBS and will go get a few next Wednesday when we get it here in Northwest Indiana. The BCBCS in last year's side by side just so much more flavor, a better mouthfeel, and over all complexity. Water-like in comparing KBS to it may have been a little harsh.

In reference to the infected '15 BCBCS, I've been lucky. I also didn't get any refund from GI because I didn't need to. The case I got was and has been fine. You can look at the bottling dates and times of ones I have left versus what I've drank and they're the same and the ones I've drank were phenomenal.

Sounds like you won the lottery with those BCBCS! I'll be interested to hear the comparison of this year's BCBCS and KBS if you decide to do it. I may end up doing the same with my one remaining BCBCS, but also incorporate a Sunday Morning Stout.

Had KBS on tap last night and bought a few bottles for 6.99 each + tax. I think both KBS and BCBS are very good but don't live up to the hype IMHO. There are several like Thirsty Dog Siberian Night that don't require the chase that I find just as good, not to mention many local BA stouts that are quite good.

Had it on tap yesterday (5oz/$7), but passed on a $6.99 bottle.

Smells beautiful with the coffee coming to the forefront, but the taste is too booze-forward. Not even bourbon tasting, just booze. I don't think I like it fresh. Or perhaps my tastes have changed, and I just don't like KBS anymore.

    nope.

It may be illegal in other states, but it is not at all in Michigan. Having said that, I 100% disagree with that practice of bundling beer together with hype monsters like KBS, BCBS, etc.

Listen, the stores that buy and sell the most Founders get the most KBS. If you're a store that's sitting on 10 cases of Founders' regular shelf beers, and you tie KBS together with it, from a business standpoint its a win-win. Someone else will buy it if you are unwilling too. It's shitty of a store manager/owner to do that, but it's smart business. It deters truck chasers who run from store to store, never actually supporting that business, and it makes it so the people who never support Founders until it's whalez hunting time, pay their dues. I get the practice, I don't support it, but some of you guys need to understand that basic concepts of distribution, allocations, supply/demand and how a business works.

We had truck chasers parked behind our store, trying to buy cases with cash from the delivery truck driver (who luckily told them to F off and go inside and wait). That's how bad this sh*t gets. We sold our 28 cases, yeah 28, at a 2 bottle limit at $6.99 or $25.99/4pk to our best Founders/beer customers. It was sold out within a half hour. Doesn't matter how much/little you get, stuff like KBS is always going to sell regardless how you do it, whether its $6 a bottle or $50, it'll sell, because the hype train always keeps rolling. Founders makes sure of that. We even got a call from Founders' office because one person called in a report of 'price gouging' and she started laughing when we told her $6.99/btl and said yup, okay, never mind, keep doing what you're doing. If you do see it at a ridiculous price, call Founders, tell them where you saw it, take a picture if you can, and that store will never get it again, if the reports of $10+/btl are true.

economics 101 - supply and demand. Founders distributes more to larger customers; retail bottle shops accommodate preferred customers with more bottles , and on goes the food chain. And each year price elasticity drives the price up with demand and hoopla being the same until more competition w/ an equivalent product or price goes too high and demand starts falling.... no different than any product. The question to ask - did i get caught in the hoopla and I'm just pissed I got shutout or is there no better spot to spend $6.99 on a 12 oz bottle of beer?
