I agree. Tried it and it was definitely a step down from Temperance's Coconut Might Meets Right. Or maybe that's just my Evanston roots talking. But my avatar . . .

Maybe its the graham cracker, cacao, vanilla and marshmallow that's throwing you off...

    - Okay maybe not end of April (yeesh bad April Fools joke)
    - However... there is some truth there. Thanks to our very friendly neighbors (who recently got their bottle shop open) we have finally found a viable path to our bottle shop! We're working with their same liquor attorney to speed this though as fast as possible. Hoping it should be ready by the time we start emptying barrels from our new place. Current estimate is 4-5 months which would put us at a late August or September.
    - We should be able to ship to FwB in states that allow alcohol shipments.

Awesome news! I assume you mean at the new location since you mention neighbors?

    Yes. At the production space.

If we had continued with the plan for the the bottle shop on Western ave we would have run into a major roadblock. The state would not allow us to sell beer made at the production space at Western. So that would cause a problem since all of the barrel aged beer (and really all the beer now) is made at Mclean (new production space) and that wouldn't really provide any benefit for our FwB.

So, we're unfortunately letting our Western location go. However, we are looking in the immediate area for somewhere we can open the smaller R&D brewery/taproom.

@NOTpipeworks So you're saying we should start lining up for the bottle shop opening now?

But seriously, thats great news! Looking forward to it.

I thought the law changed on this because now Half-Acre can sell cans at the main facility, which are canned in another facility.

The law did change. Half Acre is a Class 2 Brewer and is allowed to make transfers between facilities now (as is Two Brothers and others). We are a Class 1 Brewer and elect to self distribute. However we are not permitted to make transfer OR self distribute to ourself (as far as I understand it).

I feel so much safer with those laws in place.

Politicians get kick-backs from distributors*. When breweries self distribute, they can't get the sizeable cut on taxes, and handouts. Have to put laws in place to keep them down.

*I have no evidence to support these claims, just years of living in and around Chicago to know how things work.

It's not just Chicago, and I'm guessing you can find proof of distributors making contributions to most politicians that vote in favor of distributor friendly laws. The problems with distributors are nationwide and a pain in the ass to any beer or wine geek - unfortunately, not enough people seem to care about our first world problems! If the time and money spent on keeping these distributors happy were spent on other things to help the community, we'd be in a much better place.

I'm really looking forward to someday when PW can get a taproom up and going - that would be a great spot.

Will I be able to get some Smores in town in a couple weekends 4/22? Not sure if it's really rare or sit on shelves a couple weeks. Thanks!

I think it's tough to say for sure. I know I still see it around, but you might not just be able to get it in any old shop - it might just be scattered around if it is still on some shelves. I'd say check back in with the locals a couple days before you're coming into town and someone can probably point you in the right direction if we've seen it that week.
