I would have to say Pliny the Elder, The Abyss, Zombie Dust, Cantillon, and Wesveleteren 12 are some beers that I've had that definitely lived up to their hype.

In my experience, KBS on draft is worth the hype. In bottle its ok and the bourbon taste is too strong.

    Other beers worth the hype:
    double bastard
    devil dancer
pliny the younger (pretty much have to take a day off of work to experience it, which is half the fun).

Worth the hype: Heady Topper, Hill Farmstead beers, Alpine Nelson, Zombie Dust

Not worth the hype: Nugget Nectar, Hopslam. Kern Citra is not worth anything near what it is trading for, and isn't even as good as Zombie Dust in the juicy hop profile, so might as well trade for a 12 pack instead of 1 bomber. PtE is exceptionally brewed, but in no way is it a 100 beer in today's world of incredible IPAs. I'd say it belongs in the world of Alpine Duet and others in the mid-high 90s, but then again Hopslam is a boozy mess and is a 99 so what do I know.

    Hi Z,

    I was somewhat joking.

Vitus is darn good, I don't know if it's the best beer in the world though.

    Good Luck, KP.

    I feel spoiled as hell.

I know very little about beer. I know almost none of the beers and companies that people list on this site. But hearing that the lot of you mention Michigan breweries makes me happy. I REFUSE TO LEAVE THIS STATE.

Anyway, the first time I had Oberon, I thought it was mind blowing. I had it again, and just thought it was okay. Both times it was on tap, but the first time just seemed like a different beer. Bell's Two Hearted lived up ... I've only had it once, but good God was that legendary. I've recently tried Founders Porter and Founder Centennial IPA, and both of those are about on par with what's said about them.

Cheers. Funny you should mentioned Vitus though as my local bottle shop just got some in and I vultured most of the stock. Tisk Tisk.

Sang Noir. And it doesn't even have that much hype surprisingly.

I thought this was a good thread to resurrect. Many new beers have come out, and many new BA's can chime in.

For me, in the last year Pipework's Sure Bet was a blissful experience, and so worth its hype. What say you?
