Today's the day.. and I forgot to get Celebrator during my KBS hunt :grimacing:. I'm going out to get a new swifter anyways so I'll grab a 4pk then. I'm ready to discuss some huge bocks personally

Happy Ayinger Celebrator Tasting Day, all! As I ponder the complexities of this magnificent brew, I am faced with a seemingly irreconcilable dilemma. If "bock" is German for "goat" and "doppel" is German for "double," then "doppelbock" translates to "double goat," right? So, that being the case, why isn't the bottle festooned with two goat charms instead of just one? I guess I'll just have to take it upon myself to correct this cosmic flaw. Hey, Brauerei Aying: I've got your back!

Right behind you man! Breaking in a new glass as well.
Pours a dark brown, a scant head recedes to just a collar of tan foam. Smells of plum, raisin, roast, slight coffee, and molasses are apparent. The taste largely follows with plum, raisin, earthiness, bread, molasses. The mouthfeel is full and creamy, a pleasure to drink. As this warms, I'll post if I find anything particularly interesting. Cheers!

A truly world class beer! It smells of roasted malt, pumpernickel bread, and a whiff of caramel. There is also a faint smell of raisin and tobacco. It has a rich, complex flavor featuring roasted malt, molasses, raisin, caramel, and burnt coffee. The flavors blend beautifully. There is only the slightest hop presence and virtually no bitterness. The feel is creamy with only slight carbonation and with an ABV of only 6.7% it is incredibly easy to drink. Celebrator is a complex and delicious beer that would stand up to a rich meal but is also terrific for casual drinking. I think I'll have another!

So much malty goodness. Here is my official review from some time ago. Not sure of the date. Anyone else know how to tell?

This beer puts the Doppel in Bock (that was bad). This beer is legen, wait for it... Smells like a German angel who bathed in molasses syrup and worked 8 hours in a candy- bakery shop combo. Aromas and flavors of toffee, figs, molasses, carmel, malt balls, and taste like you put a sweet swizzle struessel dessert bread in a blender with the DNA of a 1500 year old monk. Not too thick and hard to drink like it would lead you to believe, but fairly full and creamy. It even comes with a souvenir goat. What more could you ask for? ...dary!

I wouldn't note any major differences other than it is finishing with more bitterness than I recall before. There is a hint of a slightly sour cherry aroma and more noticeable hops than in the past. Maybe it is fresher. There is even a bit of Noble hop like spice. Prost!

As I'm going, I'm picking up some spiciness, caramel and perhaps a slight chocolate note. There is a note on the finish that I cannot identify. Tobacco perhaps?

A very enjoyable beer. Here's the review:

    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

L: Pours a dark brown with some hues of ruby. a creamy, light tan head recedes quickly to a fairly scant collar.

S: Plum, raisin, roast, slight coffee, molasses, caramel and a slight bit of spice.

T: Largely follows the nose: plum, raisin, earthiness, bread, molasses, spiciness, caramel, perhaps a slight chocolate note, tobacco.

F: Full bodied, a fair amount of prickly carbonation, creaminess in the mouthfeel allows for a very enjoyable drinking experience. Finishes fairly dry, but does accumulate some stickiness over time.

O: A very nice doppelbock. The taste is delightfully complex.

I've always felt this was one of the more fruity doppelbocks produced in the US. It's often the cheapest alongside Salvator.

I never noticed that until you mentioned it. I get a little bit of tobacco in the aftertaste.
