I'm pretty sure I've seen that you are attending Dark Lord Day - I can definitely remedy at least one of those for you (plan on bringing either Sucaba or Helldorado to share), and I'm guessing there will be others with some of those bottles to share as well. I would be on the look out for their anniversary beers if I were you if/when they make it to Iowa - those are the ones that have impressed me the most.

Yep, I am going to DLD. I have a bottle of 19 that I traded for but have not opened yet. I've got a good friend who lives out of town that I wanted to make sure was around when I open it. He is going to DLD with us...

Helldorado on tap is delicious! I thought so when I first had it, reconfirmed it during the Firestone Walker XIX Anniversary Party, and more recently at a neighborhood bar (RIP Amsterdam Cafe).

Helldorado in a bottle, somehow doesn't taste like the same beer. I found it to be too booze forward, and all the base/barrel notes got lost. I'm not sure why.

 

When I had it, it was indeed on tap, but it was also in Texas and I have no idea what happened between california and my local pub... either way, your description is exactly what I experienced, all booze and no barrel (and definitely none of the base)

 

I wonder if the bottles would benefit from time in the cellar....

whole foods in SF seems to have gotten their shipments already and I was able land some. The rest of my usual spots haven't received it yet and say should arrive in the next week or two.

I've always found these posts a bit strange (and there are tons!). In Paso Robles where it's released, it sells out that day. Pictures of people in line have been posted, so this isn't an exaggeration. Every place on the western side of the country charges a kidney (with a one bottle limit) and it sells out in seconds, but without fail, someone else says, "Weird bro. That's a shelf turd here."

Are you saying you have seen Parabola on the shelf, gone back weeks later and it was still there? Why not buy it up and sell it on Craigslist?
