I think this is an example of how everyone's palate is different. From what I've had, I would say 2015 BCBS > 2014 BCBS > KBS > Parabola. Although, I also don't think comparing KBS to either of those other two is quite the right thing to do, based on the coffee component. It would be more akin to BCBCS (when not infected, this is better than KBS) and Parabajava (I haven't had this yet).

Lol I do agree that everyone's palate is different, but you actually like BCBS more than Parabola? To me Parabola is 100 and every other beer in the world is just trying to tread water around it. BCBS is worldclss. It is absolutely delicious. But not as good as parabola. 2014 small bottle BCBS to me was far superior than 2015. Get your hands on Parabojava. Incredible stuff.

Without question I like BCBS better than Parabola. I've had Parabola twice - once with about 3 years of age on it and once with about 6 months and honestly didn't care for it either time (way too hot both times I had it). I'm not ready to write it off yet completely, but it is definitely not one of the top BA stouts I have had. I want to try Parabajava, but not really looking hard into it based on my Parabola experience (and the work/tariff involved to get it). Now, the anniversary FW beers are a different story - loved every one of those I've had.

To come back to this year's KBS and not drift too much, I had it from bottle and keg over the weekend and found the tastes to be very similar. I think it could use a little time to mellow out, though. But, I know others that say it's right where they like it right now. If this year's develops the way last year's did (had a 2015 a couple weeks back and it was phenomenal), I'll be a very happy camper based on the stash I was able to acquire.

My first time hunting down KBS. Found it at Total Wine by my house here in Austin. One bottle per person at 5.99 a pop. They received only one case this year. I'm looking forward to drinking one tonight. I've had the breakfast stout and really enjoyed it. Been waiting to try the KBS for a while now.

Hot as in warm? Ya any beer is going to be shitting when warm lol. Parabola is the greatest beverage I have ever tasted. But yes, Anniversary is delicious too. I have 3 years of Anniversaries in the fridge. When I was at FW over the weekend, they are selling like 3 or 4 year old Anniversary for $110. Each year they go up heavily in price.

Pennsylvania might be getting KBS this week. Philadelphia area stores could be receiving shipments on Thursday. This is my residential area, so other Founders territories I cannot comment on. Ask your local beer store who the wholesaler is and try calling them to get an idea when they or if KBS is coming to your area.

Lucked out, my shop saved a case of '15. Got two four packs of 2016 and three bottles of 2015. Zero gouging.

Local liquor store tried to get me to buy two six packs to have the privilege of purchasing a 4 pack of KBS today. Since I was anticipating this, I gave a little fight, and when the guy finally said "alright, just one other six pack," I countered by offering to buy the FW Sucaba sitting behind his counter that I was planning to ask for anyways (I held out asking right away in the event this scenario would play out this way). He agreed to the offer, and I'm glad I didn't get truly cheated by being forced to buy beer I wasn't planning on purchasing. His store, his choice, but I played that little card to make sure I didn't feel truly cheated.

Also, any recommendations for how much age should be put on KBS? I've only ever had it fresh and it was sublime, but would 1-5 years (or more) be worth holding out for?

I think it is best 6 months to 18 months old, after that the coffee is pretty muted.

Somewhere in this thread, or another one, a poster mentioned that he was talking to one of the KBS brewers and they recommend that you don't age it. He said that they told that they aged it the right amount of time to be ready to drink when you take it home. I hear that for the coffee variants, it is good to drink right away because something about the coffee turns a bit bad as it ages. I experienced this with bourbon county coffee stout. I had a year + old bottle and something was off about it, the coffee in it tasted a bit stale.

Picked up one bottle today, my store got one case and was good enough to reserve for regulars that called in well in advance. $6.50, no hassles, but they were pissed about such a low allocation (last year they sold the same and got 3+ cases I guess).

Hoping to nab 1-2 more from my other go-to shop which should be releasing this weekend, we'll see what happens.

It was raining hard Friday, so I could leave work, without any problem. The bottle shop is about a mile down the road. Got 1 4-pack , @ $19.99, at 9:30. Felt lucky, as I'd always missed out before, going at lunch. Boss' husband went down there just before 11, and it was gone already. :slight_frown:
As of yesterday, a friend in Maine had the option of buying 2 cases that hadn't sold yet. ???? How does that happen? :0
Not sure how much he decided to get.

Nice workaround, but holy shit I hate that stores do this. I would outright refuse to shop there again.

I've never seen Kbs on tap here in the Greensboro area, maybe I missed it. Perhaps Raleigh or Charlotte. It will be. 1-2 bottle limit tomorrow I'm quite sure.
