Glad that this is not a whale anymore. We just got founders distro here in CA so we couldn't be happier to see it. It is considerably cheaper than ten fidy and just as good if not better. Weren't you guys complaining about how hard it was to find FBS 2-3 years ago?

When you guys say age, what do you mean? A year? 2-3 years?

I did a side by side between a fresh bottle this past fall and a 2014 bottle, which sat at about 1 year. Coffee notes obviously very muted. Even an aged xocoeza was a bit of a downer. I would like to tell myself I am buying enough until the end of May (when that 6 month mark hits on the beers age), But I just don't know.

Maybe I drink so much of it, that over time, my taste buds evolve into what it is becoming on a daily basis. What's the latest bottle date you guys have seen? I saw 9/14ish dated bottles. Now its almost all 11/13/15. Any closer to 2016?

No shelf turds here. Wish it were, though, because I would buy plenty, especially if it were discounted..................Lucky You !!!!!!!!!

Def agree on the cheaper part, but very leery of this 'better than Ten Fidy' talk. Very different stouts for my palate, and I love them both.

One reason more FBS is still being for sale is that there is now more competition for the beer dollar. Just think about the number of new beers and breweries in the last few years (not just stouts).

I noticed FBS and OB Ten Fidy were on the shelves longer this year than in years past...I didn't know if we just ordered more, or they didn't move as fast

I noticed the same think with Pumking last year

It's been on sale here in NE since January and has even dropped a dollar since initially going on sale. Right now it's $5.99. It appears the distributor ordered several more pallets then last year since they ran out before December. I'd say they overcompensated just a little bit. The same ordering guy has done the same on a few other beers, too. Not sure how he still has a job.

You make a good point...they are two different beasts...and I do really like em both. I stand corrected. I should've just said that breakfast stout is cheaper than ten fidy.

I see it everywhere in Chicagoland. I was under the impression it was a year round beer, had to check their site to find it wasn't.

So is the definition of shelf turd now any readily available beer? I see people describe FBS and New Glarus beers as such and yet they are best-in-class in their respective styles. Be happy that you can find some!

Here in NW Ohio, it's on shelves all the time, year-round. It's still pretty popular, it just sells well and is apparently easy to quickly restock.

Right, and as someone mentioned earlier, that would put Two-Hearted in the same class, at least in the Great Lakes region.

I can no longer taste the rare in the last few batches :grinning:

This is a good "problem" when a high quality beer is easy to get.

Interesting how when craft brewers expand into new markets, there beers fly off the shelves initially and then 6-12 months later and sales and volume movement drops off considerably and products migrate towards getting old/stale on shelves . Shows how many in craft beer community are either tickers or enamoured by the new and shiny object then move on.

nah its the never ending push for more shelf space more money. Its pretty crazy but the IPA bubble burst last year or two with fresher local options and looks like coffee stouts are next up.

Its stupid to try to have a perishable item on the shelves at all times.

I wish that also, but the Brothers Alstrom use the term in their Beer Smack column in the current issue. I guess they don't find it disrespectful to beer.

Ten fidy sits everywhere. I can still find 2014 cans, the first drop in my state, at even highly trafficked stores. The good thing is many people prefer it with age, so it'll eventually sell at full price.
