Probably Lolita then. Matilda has VERY light fruit notes and being as old as it was Brett would have masked any of that...
Lolita or Juliet. Either way nice find!

    Color seems to match up.
Then again Juliet is about the same color too.
May never know even buying a fresh Lolita or Juliet may not tell you much due to the age of the mystery bottle.

From my recollections Sofie and Matilda weren't sour at all but Lolita was sour. I haven't had Juliet yet. Not sure that will help with the detective work.

Actually i believe they put those caps on the higher ABV bottles from Dogfish Head, because some states cannot legally sell an 18% beer.

I think all the dogfish super high abv beers have that cap, including 120m, Raison, Higher Math, etc.

Technically I'm sure you're right, but I don't see the harm as a practical matter. It's fun. The customer is a willing participant and anyone capable of any kind if linear thought whatsoever can figure out the possible draw backs of taking part. There was a bowling alley in my hometown that used to have mystery beers. It was pretty easy to guess it was probably Milwaukee's Best or something of the like that showed up in dented cans that wouldn't be sellable otherwise. This is just a high end version of that.

Madame Rose, possibly? If you picked up on any dark cherries...The sisters all came in that bottle prior to them moving to the 765 mL format...

The color says that it is unlikely to be Sofie. Could be Matilda, Pepe Nero or Pere Jacques. I'm leaning heavily on Matilda because of all the Brett notes you pointed out as well as the color. Also, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't believe Lolita, Juliet, Halia, Gillian or Madame Rose ever came in 650ml bombers. I think they only come in the larger format 750ml bottles.

Brett can express fruits in many different ways. For example, Allagash Midnight Brett is a 100% Brett fermented ale and it is loaded with blackberry notes yet contains none as an ingredient. There are numerous other examples out there that others may point out.

When i googled searched Goose Island Juliet and looked at images, I saw Juliet in the 650ml/22oz format.

I didn't look into Pepe or Pere, nor do I even know what those are, until reading your post. I'll have to look them up.

I stand corrected about Juliet. I have a 2012 22oz bottle of Pepe in my cellar. It's a very dark saison Brewed with black pepper. Pere Jacques was their Belgian Dubbel Brewed a few years ago. Both can be found on GI's site under currently unavailable beers.

    Cheers!

From what I can remember, Juliet was a bit more tart than Lolita. Color seems to indicate it could be either or. Matilda and Sofie were not really sour at all and I don't think Matilda Lambicus ever made it into bottles (to my knowledge). I had an old bottle of Madame Rose last year and it was also significantly darker than OP's photo. As for the DFH... Fort was released in 750s last time around, so it really just leaves Raison D'Extra, WWS, and 120. It will be pretty obvious what it is once the bottle is cracked. It's either gonna be a malt-bomb IPA, dark brown, bready tasting beer loaded with raisins, or a dark stout. It could be Olde School as well, but I have not had that one.

Pepe Nero was almost black in color, so I don't think it could be that.

Pere Jacques was in 22 oz bottles, but I drank a 3 year old bottle last year (see picture and notes here) and while the color is similar, I don't think you'd mistake it for a beer that had brett in it.

That's pre-AB Matilda. It was so much better back then.

Most people have ruled out Matilda on color and comparing tasting notes. Why do you think it is? Also, pre-AB?
