What I learned today, is that Ten Fidy is not year round beer.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit. I bought 5-6 cases of FBS and wasn't offered a SINGLE case of KBS. It's actually pretty annoying considering the money I've spent and shelf space I've given them.

I still have some in my store but I'd be stupid to not. They also released two batches. I bought 3 cases of the first batch and 3 of the second. I'd never discount it. I also have a regular who buys 2 packs a week. I'd buy it year round if available.

Only Michigan got a different label, and it was only for a few months. All out of state distribution received the original baby label.

My friend has the same problem at the store he works but with another brewer. Has 7 or 8 different beers on an eye level shelf right in front of everybody and he got none of there Coffee variant when it was released last month. Personally I would be dropping them to the bottom shelf and letting then know why.

As someone new to Founders, what was the Backstage series supposed to be? One offs?

Of the one offs I've tried, Project PAM is my favorite Founders beer. Blushing Monk want bad on tap either.

If I can find it for under 10 bucks a 4-pack I'll buy it all day long. Any more than that it's just not worth it.

Last year it sat all year because they charged too much at that store. This it seems to almost be in the fridge but nobody's really buying. I thought it was ok.

It is still a great beer and I definitely see it more now than previous years. One, it's not a beer people chase and trade, and two, people are very fixated on bourbon barreled versions. Also, craft beer has a slight problem in that people love to try new beers vice drinking old favorites. Need a nice common ground.

How can a beer rated world class on BA be a shelf turd? It's a great tasting beer and I went through several four-packs when it first hit distribution in so Cal. I can still find it at two stores but I would not call FBS a shelf turd. Founders Imperial Stout is also sitting on shelves at two local bottle shops. I don't would not call FIS a shelf turd either.

Next year there will be less and I guess because of the this thread, we will complain that it's too rare. It's pretty much become less than a seasonal, so perception wise, it's a shelf turd? Unless it seems to be a turd that isn't discounted some, I really see no problem. I was trading for this last year for $14/four pack, plus shipping costs.

I am in heaven. Change nothing FOUNDERS.

But it is an interesting problem @Jay_P22 . People love trying new things. This is taken for granted to an extreme level. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these breweries, just to spite some people, lower quantities and availablity, and get back in the "good graces" of whale chasers. But hopefully, I hope they are making enough money on the current quantities of FBS produced that they don't ever lower quantities. On a ABV/price/Oz. front, a $8 four pack is a killer deal. Don't mess with happy ppl.

@bgold86 , I call BS on the options that are better.. Unless this is still priced at $12, and given that current state, I would call it a turd. But pretty much anything below that is a quality offering. I think I've seen it all when FBS isn't one of the top offerings at a store, EVER.

I have a soft spot for these guys but this evolving culture scares me.

Overall I would say, this whole situation can be a learning lersson for breweries who think they are popular and will forever expand and grow. Peoples tastes change. They dont want the same great tasting IPA all the time. But thats what their expansion plan is dictated on. It's really tough out there. I just don't want anyone dictating lower quantities on FBS. Soft spot, in what is now a bargain value. Is that selfish?

I was buying 4 packs from September/early October for the last three months at the Jewel I shop at every week. As they got to the end of their supply, they dropped the price from $10.99 to 9.99 to eventually 8.99, and at that point I cleared out the last of their inventory. My favorite beer store still had some as of last Saturday, still at 10.99.

When I first tried it in 2013 is still considered a semi-whale. Now I've noticed the same thing--it's on the shelves until late spring/early summer. I think it's probably Founders upped production of it and now there's more than enough, finally.

Typically, yes. I tasted the Mango Magnifico the other night and thought it was fun and fantastic. I know I couldn't kill a 22oz by myself though.

Lucky you! One of the big chains here in TX had it on sale for $8.99 which is barely over cost.

Believe me, they're not the only ones crapping in my cereal. I've had words with at least 2-3 brewery reps and a couple distro reps. It's seriously pay to play for the most part and if you don't buy EVERYTHING they're selling, you're lucky to get anything. Instead of looking at multiple logistics, they typically just looks at overall sales. Which is annoying, unethical and illegal in the state of Texas. But the ones that are with big beer, don't care and don't scare easily and for good reason.

This beer is in the stores around me basically every time I walk in. Honestly, and I realize I'm one of the few, I think the regular Breakfast Stout is highly overrated. I do absolutely love the Kentucky Breakfast stout however.
