I LOVED my bottle from last year.

Yeah. I feel the same way. All their stouts are just far too hoppy or IBU-forward for me.

Was told to sit on my Enlightened Despot for a year because it's too hot and bitter at the moment.

    I grew up right
I wouldn't say its too hot, but its definitely bitter. If you don't like bitter stouts, you shouldn't buy any beer based off Black Bear.

Recently had a one-year old Enlightened Despot. The hoppiness fades and the resulting stout is very good. I recommend any of their stouts with a year on them.

I am gonna let it age. I usually age their beers at least six months. preferably a year. Heir Apparent is one exception that drinks well almost immediately. I never figured out why.

LCCB stouts age incredibly well, though.

    1 year? Enough for them?

Would the coconut quad fair well with time? Hope it doesn't lose that sweet coconut flavor.

I'd wager that if you age the coconut quad, you're gonna end up with an ordinary quad after a year.

I believe Heir Apparent is a different base than Black Bear. I'd also heard that the decadence/obsession line was the same base as Heir Apparent and not as hoppy as Black Bear. I've only had 2015 Supreme and 2016 Heir and found both to be way better than Black Bear or any variants.

I'm not sure LCCB has been around long enough to confirm this.

I wouldn't age that too long. I was just talking stouts.

if supreme leader is the same base, then it might be OK.

the reviews for the decadence/obsession beers indicate a too bitter/ hoppy/ charcoal flavor, the same flavor i have gotten from the black bear, vanilla bear, illuminatos, etc when i haven't aged them properly.

i'll put it this way: all of the LCCB stouts i've had have gotten better with age. the longer they age, the better they taste. true, there are no five-year-aged illuminatos around. if a vertical was done on a LCCB stout, I think the differences in the beer over the years would be remarkable. more noticeable than most.

Definitely. I think I like the rum version better though(personally surprising). They're really good now so I'm considering just drinking or trading now, can't see these improving like despot might.

Spent the better part of the morning waiting at the Tysons WF, but the KBS came and went at noon after I gave up. Any other places out there that still may get it, besides Dominion? Are any of the Lost Dogs getting some? Thanks!

Would be very curious about the Weihenstephaner 1516 Kellerbier as well. It seems like only a handful of places in the District even carry their beers, but if anyone's seen this in DC, I'd love to grab a sixer.

oh my god I knew that this awful named brewery (recipient of don't drink beer's worst brewery name award, they did NOT find it funny) existed, but had no idea it was in Goochland.

Every state has its funny place names. Even Norfolk is kind of funny when you pronounce it correctly.

Metro Wine & Spirits (on Columbia Rd, AdMo) has KBS. Ready for it? $49.99 a 4-pack. These guys didn't used to be gougers. Unfortunate.
