Coming into Atlanta tonight for the Masters. Arrive late and want to grab some beer before heading to Augusta. I get in around 9:30, so looking for a place open to 11 pm. Looks like greens on ponce is a good bet, any others? Any places to go in Augusta for a good beer? Shops?
Not sure about the ones around Augusta/Atlanta but the Mellow Mushrooms are excellent here in VA. Absolutely love their pizza and the one near me has close to 50 taps with some pretty hard to find stuff. I would assume they are highly regarded in GA as well since they are an Atlanta based chaiin. Also seek out beers from Orpheus and Creature Comforts. They some some really good stuff!
I can't help you out much with Atlanta but once you get to Augusta, I'd recommend hitting up Hive Growler Bar for good beer and food. They easily have the best beer selection in the area (around 50 taps and they typically are of high quality). Looks like they currently have KBS on tap (at a ridiculous price) but my guess is that'll be gone by tomorrow. The Mellow mushrooms in the area have a decent beer selection but typically nothing crazy. As far as bottle shops in the area are concerned, none are spectacular but your best bets are Toast Wine and Beverage, Beverage Outlet and North Augusta Wine and Beverage.
Damn, figured they are open later being one of the bigger ones. I second tower too if they are open that late.
They had some better choices in berckmans place last year, but i stayed with liquor since it was all free. I'll just drown in Stella on the course
It would be difficult to find any institution more BIG corporate friendly than The Masters and Augusta National. That said, on my trips down through the years, Heineken and pimento cheese sandwiches were more than adequate and really cheap.
Indeed. I do and did my fair share of pimento and bbq sammiches and Stellas. That said- in Berckmans Place, they do serve Sweetwater, RJ Rockers, and one or two other types of beer along with the mainline Bud/Coors stuff. I saw lots of beer drinkers, but most hit the liquor and single malt scotchs in there, and for good reason, cause you don't pay for anything!
Missed Berckman's, but still have the $6,000 that the pass would have cost. I guess I'll have to get to know Condoleezza better! Just being on that course is a treat.
