Founders Breakfast Stout
I thought I had another one of these but this looks like it is the last one!!

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday!

Outstanding fruit stout. Big flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, and light smoke/char; with moderate juicy/light tart blueberries. Balanced roasted bittersweet creamy/silky medium-full bodied finish. More pronounced fruit in the nose, but still a nice balanced amount in the taste. Love this stuff every year. Hoping they brew all 5 stouts this year. They only did Tres and Plead last fall.


Incredible DIPA. Big flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, apricot, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate malts of light honey/toasted bread with herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/herbal/grassy bitterness; with a nice sticky/resinous mouthfeel with some light-medium creaminess; with great balance and no astringency. Moderately dry finish. Nothing but juicy hops, with a nice malt backbone that isn't too sweet or heavy in the mouthfeel. I can finally can get a fresh 4 pack now, finished off the last one.


Last Heresy I have. Big robust flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, and light-moderate dark fruit; with a balanced spicy oak/bourbon finish. Really nice presence of oak complexity without overtaking the malts or being too boozy. Nice creamy/silky finish for the modest ABV. Past it's "best by" dating, but still tasting awesome. I was wondering why this didn’t show up again this year, it’s been retired . I hope they bring it back again some day. I loved this because of the price and lower ABV. It was also far easier to find on the shelf last year as a BBA stout.


Last 2015 I have. Tasting really awesome! Big flavors grapefruit, pineapple, peach, tangerine, mango, citrus peel, and pine hops; with balanced sweetness of caramel, brown sugar, and toasted bread. Moderately aggressive pine/citrus rind bitterness; with balanced creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. No lingering hop astringency or cloying malt sweetness. Warming finish, but not boozy. I feel like more recent batches have been an improvement(pretty sure they changed the hop bill). Looking forward to this year’s batch in a couple months for sure. This is a love/hate beer, but I the 2015 release was a total winner for me. I buy it every year, and this is the best batch I’ve had yet.

Final round at Augusta National. . .can Bernhard Langer at a spry, enviable 58 make history?

 

Had date night with the boss lady, celebrated our 9th anniversary. Back home and on the couch by 9:30, actually just woke up on it, haha!

Started off at Honolulu Beerworks, they were celebrating their anniversary too! Could only stay a few minutes, but had their Anniversary Ale. A blend of 2014 and 2015 Barleywines, aged in cabernet and bourbon barrels. Probably one of my favorites from them, a little boozy, dark fruits, nice blend of the barrel characteristics. I hope they start bottling at some point.


Went to our favorite and only legit tiki bar left on O'ahu, La Mariana Sailing Club (as seen on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain), for some tiki drinks and dinner. If you ever visit the island, I highly recommend you visit here. It's a bit out of the way and in an industrial part of town, but that makes it great. Mostly locals here, and the tourists that are here, aren't obnoxious. You have to know where it is to get here, just don't walk by it, so that cuts down on the crazies. This was a Zombie

Good morning BAs! Got back from MI last night - don't know how many bands of snow I drove through between Flint and Cleveland - but all in all not a bad drive. Stopped at Rachael's outside of Mercer for some lupper - I'll swear their beer selection is getting worse. Today's breakfast beer is the first from the latest NBS BIF #3, from @superspak, some MI love:

Going to miss your tropical pool shots. . .happy packing, hope the new digs are just as Jimmy Buffett like, and not something like Alberta or Winnipeg Canada.

Cleaning sucks; new beginning are awesome.Will miss the pool shots--my back yard is a bunch of little kids' toys. Looks like we're drinking the same beer today, so extra cheers to you.
