According to that page, that "Kolsch" is an IPA. Oh the humanity! Will the evils of AB ever cease?
It's also the color of "sunshine." And here I thought I could trust the info on a brewery web page.

Recently had Maui Brewing Kihei Kolsch which I thought was excellent.

    Similarly, loved Double Mountain Kolsch.

I've had a few but just cannot acquire a taste or love for the style. my own personal preferences, I guess...

During my first visit to Germany in 1984, my wife's cousins told us that Koelsch was a boring beer, that we would prefer Alt from Duesseldorf and pretty much any pilsner or helles on tap. They were right.

But an afternoon in 2000 wandering around the Koeln Altstadt, drinking several of their beers, and I gained an understanding and appreciation of the style. A few Seattle breweries do a decent job of it these days.

The style has yet to greatly impress me but I do have a Kentucky Ale Kolsch in the fridge I intend to revisit soon.

I hate on lagers all the time but I do have some love for kolschs, when I'm in the rare mood. Total summer beer for me. Mike Hess Claritas is a solid one.

I like Kolschs, it's just they make me think of something that could be more something.

I enjoy Coast Kolsch on occasion. Whenever I have one, I always wonder why I don't drink them more often...

Great to see you back on Beer Talk!

FWIW- I recently was able to enjoy some Metropolitan Krank Shaft Kolsch, and I found it to be clearly better than my other local choices these days (including imports). If you ever have the chance you should check it out.

I have not had them yet. I've only had it in bars on tap. Have you had the canned version?

Had a Reissdorf Kolsch recently at a local German resturant, it was really good. Looking forward to having another.

God almighty, I hope I can find some 32/50 cans when I'm in Asheville...best (American) Kolsch in the business as far as I'm concerned.

Where are you reading that? :astonished: The page I link to says the style is Kölsch.
    Was the link corrected?
The Summertime has been re-introduced this year after being off shelves for 2. This beer used to be a favorite summer quaff for me -- for a very long time. When I saw it available again I was quick to grab a 6 pack. I personally don't believe they're brewing the same recipe, but I found no cardboard in what I had, and it was far from the worst beer I'd had in a long time. That said, I sadly doubt it will continue as one of my favorite summer picks.

Actually I was thinking of amending my previous statement - the next bottle was less bad than the first, maybe whatever I was eating/drinking before that effected it. Still not good though. The worst kolsch I've had was last year's Other Half mosaic dry hopped boogie board stuntz, but I haven't had the mango one others here mention. That might beat it. Not sure why its a seldom domestic attempted style and why alot of brewers need to dry hop or add fruit. (Actually I know why - its not a high hopped style so it won't sell to today's craft drinker)

They fixed it. That means... they're watching us. :grimacing:
I was actually hoping you'd chime in about this beer. I figured you'd try it and I knew you'd be tough to please. I'd love to try a single but don't want to bring home a sixer if it's not my cup of tea.
