When I had EWS citra at release, it hurt the back of my throat. I let me cans sit 2 weeks and they become amazing. It's probably just the yeast needing to settle down.

As most of their stuff, give it a few days (or weeks) in the can, chilled in the fridge. The harshness will reduce.

I guess I'm just of the belief that if you're going to release something to the public for sale, it should be ready to go. Not everyone feels the same way and that's cool.

this is a thread about a brewery which he is discussing, and there is nothing unreasonable about expecting a finished product. i can't think of another brewery that's releasing hoppy beers that both look and taste unfinished.

It's an IPA. Doesn't have Brett. Shouldn't have an "enjoy AFTER" date.

Can not wait until the HH Jackie Os collab is released and each groups fanatics will blame the other for how poor the beer tastes. Looking forward to it....on the other hand it is a stout so maybe HH is only working on their stout game since all the iPas taste the same?

    Sorry couldn't help myself...

I'm reaching by giving an honest assessment? Go read my post again and tell me where I am bitching. Next time I'll just say it's the best beer I've ever had. Will that work for you? Apparently you've missed the times I've said that I LIKE most of their beers. They don't get a free pass from me. No one does when it comes to my money being spent. Obviously I thought enough of them to drive 1 hour and 35 minutes down there and back up from Cleveland with my wife (who had just run a half marathon yesterday morning but was a champ and wanted to go) so I could pick up cans for she and I, my friends at home, and some friends from out of town. And this certainly isn't the first time I've driven down. Sorry for saying something that could potentially hurt the trade value of your beloved Hoof. I don't understand why honest feedback can't be given about this damn brewery without it turning into a shitstorm.

And I'm seeing some Untappd comments about these cans being "young" and how they will improve in two weeks. It's cool if people are a fan of that. I am not. When a brewery puts a product out for sale, I expect it to be ready to consume and be enjoyable. Some sours need time to develop upon release and some stouts/barleywines need time to get less hot (unless you like them hot). However, IN MY OPINION, IPA's shouldn't have an "enjoy after" date. You may feel differently, and as I said, that is fine.

Thanks for the info. sorry for my lack of brewing knowledge. I just drink the beer not make it. Would love to learn some day when time permits it. But yea, EWS Citra was hard on the palate for a few days. After a week or so it was spot on. All these complaints, I'm just glad we live in Ohio where the options for beer are incredibly awesome. We should be pointing our anger towards the ABV law..

The accusation that anybody who raves about Hoof stuff is trying to drive up the hype/trade value is pretty annoying. There's also a difference between not liking the beer and saying that Hoof released it unfinished.

Annoying? Sure. True? Yup! As for sending out something unfinished?! Sounds like there seems to be a consensus on that one. Oh I forgot, do not criticize the Hoof. Otherwise pitchforks and torches come out. My bad.

BTW for those who care and not busy complaining about whatever... Hoof will supposedly having no releases the next two weekends. Tentatively, the next one is May 1st (JO collab?)

It does seem annoying that they're releasing things so young (I've had some that have neared chili beer levels of yeast/hop spiciness) but at the same time, we're on a website that's got pages and pages of posts talking about the freshness of IPAs (down to weeks or evens days before it's not worth drinking/buying/trading for) so the idea that something is getting out there with a week or two of buffer seems like something some folks would be excited about.

Missed this week's EWS, as it's been one of my least favorites in the past. But I just can't get enough of SoE! So great, even on the first day, and it really hasn't changed much since. Actually, it may be even a bit more concentrated.

Where the hell from Cleveland are you coming from that is only 1 hour and 35 minutes! :grimacing: Damn you must be going 100MPH! I come from SOUTH Akron and it's 1.5 hours from there lol.

I do agree in regards to the canning timing. Someone gave me a fresh Konkey a long time ago and told me to wait on it. I did, but could only last a couple days, but it was delicious.

That being said, Blabe and EWS seem to have been highly susceptible to this problem. I too don't understand how an IPA can be allowed to be canned too early. This is definitely the first brewery I've ever heard that from. EWS (and Wangbar) are just a really odd birds, with that crazy tan/beige look, and especially since EWS changes hop varietals. I'm okay with them considering EWS to be a bit experimental, but maybe they need to put more consideration into the canning dates.

After that thought, I have to also consider they probably do put a good deal of thought into canning dates. I'm sure it's more of a challenge for them than other breweries, with the mobile canning line schedule. Plus, there's also the possibility they are trying to give people the opportunity to have it fresher than they may have had any other beer. If that means the first few cans you crack have actually not quite completed the tail end of fermenting or what have you, maybe they're okay with that...

^i have to agree. SoE is a fantastic beer. I still have it a step above roller blabe even though I think roller blabe got very good over time!

I live in West Park and don't speed (made that mistake as a 17-year old and it was the quickest $150 I ever spent). It's a pretty straight shot right down 71 for me. It took 1 hr 35 min yesterday. Has been around 1 hr 40 in the past.
