Dark Lord Day 2015 - More Information

Date: April 25, 2015 (Gates opened at 10:00 AM)
Allotment: 4 per person
Attendance: 12,000 (Estimated 8,000 Group Tickets, 4,000 GA tickets)
Variants: Bourbon, Bourbon Muerte, Cognac Coffee, Bourbon Vanilla, Aquavit, 2 Yr Portuguese Brandy, Bourbon Cherry Cocoa Nibs, Earl of Biggleswade
Weather: Low to mid 40s. Cloudy and rainy all day, downpour at times,
Other notable FFF to go beers: No packaged sales at DLD this year.
Notable Food: Dark Lord Ice Cream, Dark Lord Hot Sauce

This year had some of the worst weather I have ever experienced at DLD. It rained for most of the day, downpours at times creating huge puddles all over the festival grounds. Ponchos were a necessity. Thankfully an additional and much larger tent was put up. Despite that it was still a good time.

The festival grounds were expanded yet again. This time occupying the entire empty lot which was north of 3 Floyds all the way up to Superior Ave. This lot was covered in gravel. The lot across the street and to the south of 3 Floyds was also used, covered in gravel, and a very large tent was erected here, as stage was also inside this tent where Big Freedia performed. Big Freedia was added to the lineup in protest of the recent law passed in Indiana allowing businesses to discriminate based on religions reasons. The main stage was still outside as it was in 2013 and 2014. The lot directly across from 3 Floyds was now paved as a parking lot, instead of a grass covered in hay for the festival, which was good considering the rain.

Stanchions were put up at the gates to help organize the line of people entering the festival. There were some issues with workers not providing clear information on the line to enter, some people getting stuck in non-moving rows. But overall things went fairly smooth.

There were no packaged sales this year, so no other FFF beers available to go. Some suggested this was because their event license did not allow for it, possibly at the request of local or State Police.

The Dark Matter line was much more organized this year. They again sold Black Hole Necromancer (barrel aged ice coffee). They also sold coffee, snifters, goblets, and mugs. Most or all of which were available online the following week.

Tickets were sent as lanyards this year, so you could easily wear it around all day, it had a perforated tear off section for when you enter/pick up bottles (both or just one I don't recall).

Ticket Sales Information - Dark Lord Day 2016

Tickets again sold via etix. No General Admission tickets this year. Ticket price jumped from $40 to $200, but ticket includes your bottles of Dark Lord, a barrel aged variant, and $40 in food/drink vouchers.

Despite the big jump in price, demand for tickets seemed to be as high as ever with the site experiencing some timeouts and long wait times in the ticket queue. A Best Available option was added this year which would select the group for you instead of making that decision yourself and taking a chance.

FFF announced and twitter that they had no plans to sell GA tickets this year.

 

Malort Barrel Aged Dark Lord

This isn't directly Dark Lord Day related, but I thought it was notable enough to include here. A one off Malort barrel aged Dark Lord was available one time only at Kaiser Tiger at a special event this past November. A small cask was filled with Malort for a time, then emptied and filled with Dark Lord and aged. Only a very small amount was available, and you had to roll a 20 sided die to win the chance to try some.

Brewpub ticket sales for 2016

Group A tickets for Dark Lord Day were sold at the brewpub on Monday, April 11th at 7am. Tweet went out a little after 4 in the morning. Line to start at 6:45 and sales to start at 7am. One per person, cash only.

Ticket sales lasted well into the afternoon, selling out just before 4pm.

 

Yeah that was the timestamp on Twitter, do they not use your local time zone? If so maybe it was 6:15 and Twitter users Pacific time. The Facebook post was also 6:15 so you are most likely correct. I just woke up and saw the notifications on my phone

Also thought I should add his here as it seems important. The new bill passed which makes bottle sharing at DLD officially legal.
