^^^ This. I don't even live in the state and I can drive down and get most of what I'm looking for.

There is no arguing with these people. The fact is that it is "new vs old." Time has shown many times over that the same people posting every rare beer release location, promoting themselves as being a "beer advocate," are generally new to the scene. Quite quickly these same people end up on the other end of the argument, but by then newer beer advocates are there to "help out" by spoiling every location the moment bottles hit the shop. And on and on and on.

They think they're helping, but they're hurting the scene overall. This practice makes getting these beers more difficult every year, with everyone keeping their eyes on these threads so they can all rush out at once (or send their mules etc). Most everyone comes to realize this in time, but as long as BA exists the practice will continue to exist.

Why are people on Beer Advocate advocating to hide beers from people on Beer Advocate? Isn't this site intended to do the opposite?

People hurt the beer scene by sharing availability information in a beer forum? Seems like BA is turning into a private club (aka circle jerk) where your status is measured by the length of your membership. Missed a beer because you have A JOB? I know a shit ton of people who would be happy to be in that situation.

Not posting about a beer delivery is not hiding it. I would argue that your idea of advocating is hurting more people than it helps. It overwhelmgly helps resellers and mules over local and regular customers.

You have to provide actual proof to claim something like this, not your opinion.

So, what real overwhelming proof do you have that someone posting to this forum is creating a situation that hurts the craft beer community?

Years of witnessing it firsthand, and countless secondhand accounts from beer enthusiasts and store owners. Also, common fucking sense.

So your proof is not something that anyone else can see except for yourself. Wow, that proves it conclusively, and doesn't sound like your opinion at all. Well done!

Dont be an ass. Of course there haven't been studies done and statistics to quote. Proof lies only in experience. There's a difference between anecdotal evidence and opinion.

Anecdotal evidence is largely considered unreliable in academic circles because, much like opinions, it proves nothing.

I don't think people want to "hide" beers, and I am ALL for sharing good beer. Let's have a few, talk about them, and find a time to share some more!
But there are too many people on this site just hoping you will let them know when a beer is out there and they chase down numerous bottles instead of being satisfied with one or two bottles/4pks. I think it's great to go ahead and let people know online to check with their local shops since "X" beer may be arriving "Y" week. But announcing the exact shop online (instead of to just your beer buds) hurts the local regulars hoping to get a good bottle/4pk every once in awhile.

As it's been said many times on BA: find your go-to stores/shops and develop relationships with those people and you'll know about all of the releases and when good beer is coming. I've been into craft beer for many years and I rarely miss out at my local shops because I give them my regular year-round business and they keep me informed.
Of course, I have gone and told LOTS of people about the local shops and now things are even more limited, but they are great stores and they deserve the business for the great job they do! (despite the craziness of it all and not being to satisfy everyone all of the time)

    Owned, for the win.

Sounds to me like Dontcounttoday is mad because he has a 9-5 job and can't get out early to grab the goods. This also explains why he posts that place are sold out when they really are not. That kind of shit is what hurts the beer scene. But hey, there's always at least one self serving ass in every group. I think we've narrowed who that is in this group.

Heh owned yeah. Because we all have scientifically collected evidence to back up any of our beer claims. Its all collective group experience and observations. You can deny it if you want but all you're doing is being naive to the results of your actions.

I have no hurt butt. I got my 1 bottle without the "help" of the people here. I still hate to see people hurting the scene in their misguided attempts to help.

I'm still confused as to how that "hurts" the community? This "new vs old money" concept that you seemingly created needs to stop. Frankly, its none of your business how people chose to spend there money nor the lengths they will go to, to aquire a beer.
Also on a side note I got 0 this year. I searched for it, but came up empty; shit happens...

Right... because the only people that go and buy them after seeing it posted here are those who hoard and re-sell. Poor guys that want to try it for the first time or that have been hunting it for a while. Somehow the forum won't let them read those posts

Let's be honest here about feelings....

Did you get a parabola? Of course you are happy and thankful for this thread or you just don't care because you developed those concrete relationships

Did you not get a parabola (or you believe you deserve more)? Screw everything and everyone unless you get to said mentioned spot and secured a bottle

I mean, I'm sort of sad that I can't buy a case of KBS from my old liquor store anymore too...but that's more about the rise in popularity of craft beer in general than it is about black market sellers racing around snatching everything up. I too want to knife fight the obvious black market idiots who are preventing me from drinking good beer with friends or while yelling at my xbox alone, but is anyone paying premium for what amounts to a (very good) shelf beer? If they are, I guess I'll just sit back and wait for the oversaturated bubble to burst.
