Regarding Exodus, is that the IPA that they canned and that's for sale at Whole Foods? If so, holy shit. Price was $6.99 a sixer at the WF in Santa Fe and I assume similar here in ABQ. That's awesome. Only Santa Fe Brewing is that affordable for a sixer. I may grab a sixer on the strength of the price despite not needing any more beer at all in my life.

Have to admit, I was very underwhelmed with Canteen. I guess if I can find Exodus available as a single I will give it a shot in light of the praise here though. If you are going to put it in the same sentence as Elevated I think I have to.

I remember you saying a while back you didn't like Canteen, have you been more recently? The brewer there is really capable and came in pretty recently. I picked up a can of Exodus from Whole Foods today and will possibly give it a taste tonight and get back to you. Kind of silly to pay the single can price of $1.99 when a sixer is currently $6.99 but I have way too much beer as it is.

@denver10 the Exodus IPA is tasting pretty lovely right now. Heavy citrus presence with a resinous, zesty grapefruit finish. I think it's high time I revisited Canteen. I haven't visited there in probably half a year because I wrote them off. This beer gives me high hopes.

I believe $6.99 is the intro price for Exodus and Dougie (until the end of the month). Then it appears $8.99 will be the "norm". Not sure how many they'd sell at that price. But what do I know.

I told myself I'd buy two six packs, and I did. I will give it a go again this evening on a fresh palate. It's definitely worth $7 even if it is just "average", much like Santa Fe Happy Camper tends to be. Some may even say its closer to SF than elevated. But it can depend on the batches etc. Right now though, its a great competitor to the market, much better than Rio Bravo's Dirty Rotten Bastard that they have set to can.

First off, fuuuuck Rio Bravo. Haha.

Second, no way is this Exodus close to Happy Camper. That beers way old school. Not a bad beer as far as I'm concerned, but hardly something to satisfy the modern hophead. This Exodus had the citrus and fruitiness that most crave these days and was very drinkable. At $8.99 you're getting 72 ounces while Elevated is $9.99 for 64 so for those that shop on price, Exodus is more than competitive.

I have to confess that it's been eons since I bought a 4-pack of anything local. I generally just drink at the breweries or get growlers of most local stuff and occasionally will pick up a can of Marble or La Cumbre at Trader Joe's. I'm too promiscuous to drink a six pack of anything these days. I hope I'll break out of that, but not at the moment.

I weened myself off the ever rotating beer fridge at the cost of trusty stand-by's. Don't get me wrong, I drink new beers all the time but my fridge is generally filled more with familiar favorites than new stuff. A quick look in my fridge right now would show every can or bottle is something familiar. Granted, I did have a couple new beers last night....and I generally do always have some new beers sitting in my fridge.

As for value of buying a single for $2 or a sixer for $7/$9...if I don't like the beer (enough), that $7/$9 sixer will quickly become a $7/$9 single. Not going to waste my time drinking something I don't like. There is no value in beer outside of enjoyment, IMO, so if I don't like it, I generally don't drink it.

Santa Fe Brewing is releasing a mosaic-hopped IPA on Saturday with 40% wheat malt. Sounds tasty. I'm hopeful it's good.

Bosque has a really nice doppelbock on tap, Tu-bock Shakur. Definitely hits the spot for those looking for a a nice bready malt bomb.

@ONovoMexicano , tap only? I'm surprised their taps aren't more places.

How was Tart @ heart this weekend? Anybody check out Marble's events?

@denver10 I'm with you on this one. I've come full circle and can now appreciate those "average" six packs buys. Currently liking SN HH once again. AVBC Blood Orange gose a staple. It seems like Canteen Exodus can be that fridge staple. Spending $5 or $5.50/ pint (like in Bow And Arrows case), I am just so OFF of over spending for the sake of "new" beers. Mainstays for days! If every new brewery is trying a red beer that can't come close to Marbles, or a hefe that isnt quite to La Cumbres standards, I just don't need to be trying all of that over priced non sense.

Are you asking about SFBC's beer? I'm guessing it's tap only, but not sure. I know it'll be on at the ABQ Taproom.

I didn't do Tart at Heart this year and haven't been to Marble's events. I may pass by today to check out the two new anniversary beers. Looks like we have a gose with limes called Rita! and a pilsner aged in tequila barrels with brett called Pilsner AƱejo. Is it just me or does the second beer sound as much like a margarita as the first? Haha.

I've long said that a bunch of breweries are popping up doing the same shit and giving me no reason to pay them a visit. Absolutely no reason I'd go to Red Door to drink an IPA when Marble or La Cumbre or Bosque are just as close and leagues better.

However, if a brewery has found some way to be distinct or unique, be it via their beer, their taproom or their events, that will get me in the door. As far as I'm concerned, Ponderosa (food, kid's area, German styles), Duel (Belgian focus, even if a lot of their beers are shit) and Tractor 4th street (thanks to their events and community focus) are the only brewery's with a clue right now. I do like Bow and Arrow's space and it's pretty cool that one of the owners is American Indian, so I'd like to see that place succeed.

I'll still visit Canteen and Quarter Celtic by the way, because I know the potential they have.

I enjoyed 2016 Father Nelson. Less booze than earlier years and a fuller, richer feel to it. Very fruity in taste and aroma with that tropical vibe.

Are Father Nelson bottles in stores yet or only at the brewery? Pretty limited release? Hoping I can send my mom out to snag me a couple bottles.

I'm sure Jubilation in ABQ and Susan's in Santa Fe will get a small amount. Sounds like it will go pretty quickly though.

How long does father Nelson usually last on tap and in bottles at the brewery? Heading out there next week.

Hard to say. Maybe on tap, maybe not. Same with bottles. Price may keep the bottles around a little longer.

It was either Full Nelson or Father Nelson that seemed to last through that second weekend on draft last year. Sold out at the brewery in bombers by day 8 but places like Jubilation, Kellys, and TW had them through at least the 2 week mark.

Price may turn some away. Beer popularity seems to be getting higher for sure. I personally want to say, one week is a solid gauge. If anything draft or bomber sells out by then, I would be shocked. Get your mom out there @Number3red. LC can be pretty accomidating. Not that I've done it but it seems like the place you can ask to save a bottle with them knowing you are coming from CA with "goodies". Don't quote me on that in the slightest. Quantities seem high enough now to where I saw people walking with a case of bombers today. Those first day thrills should slow down unless the quantities lowered (they increased brewhouse space, I dont see why they would do that unless of a hop issue). They brewed up a good amount last year. Dozens of dozens. If anything call and ask the day or days before you are going. I hear them on the phone taking calls. Very accommodating and patient bunch @erway

What's the situation there with being able to open up bottles at breweries or bars? I'm bringing some bottles with me so if there are any breweries that allow me to open bottles then hopefully we could meet up for some beers and maybe have a little bottle share.

Strictly, it's illegal and we don't allow it at La Cumbre. Sorry. I don't make the laws and SID can be very overbearing when they decide to be.
