It is definitely intensely hopped and crushable as well.

They should call it average, arrogant and very entitled.

I love Tired Hands pale ales more than almost any other beer (almost), but I hate how people in local beer circles try to speak the Tired Hands lingo. Look at every other Untappd check-in from around Philly and the 'burbs, and you'll see most beers described as "dank and crushable". Doesn't matter the beer, as long as it's an ipa, it's "dank and crushable".

I get it, dank is a good way to describe some aromas, but give me something. What are you tasting? Citrus? Malty? Bready? Give me something! Calling something dank and crushable is like calling something hoppy. Tells me nothing.

    /douche-rant over. :grinning:

    Taking one for the team!!

In the middle of January I obtained a 4-pack of HopHands. I posted in the New Beer Sunday thread (1/24/16) my impressions of that beer when fresh: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-570.379287/#post-4449490

I kept one of those cans in the refrigerator to see how well this beer holds up with age; about 3 months of aging. So last week I popped that can which I obtained on 1/17/16 and below is a comparison of the two beers.

    HopHands before and after!!

    Served in my Lucifer goblet::

    Appearance:

1/24/16: The color is straw/yellow color with a hazy appearance. It has a one finger head.

4/14/16: only difference is a smaller head.

    Aroma:

1/24/16: A pleasant combination of hop aroma: I pick up mostly citrus but there is some fruity as well. In the background there is hint of resin.

4/14/16: Still a very noticeable hop aroma! I am noticing that the resin is more prominent now.

    Taste:

1/24/16: The flavor follows the nose with citrus being the most dominant flavor but some fruity with just a tiny bit of resin. Nothing to remark about the malt other than to say it provides balance to the hops. Moderate bitterness.

4/14/16: The flavor follows the nose. Again the resin is more noticeable then it was 3 months ago.

    Mouthfeel:

1/24/16: Medium bodied with a pleasant carbonation level.

    4/14/16: Ditto.

    Overall:

1/24/16: I think this beer is very good. It has a quality that some BAs would term as ‘juicy’.

4/14/16: I also think this beer is very good. I am happy to report that this beer holds up very well with age if you continuously store the beer cold!!

    Cheers!

I'd say this rant was both dank and crushable.

I totally agree with this assessment, the beer changes noticeably over time, but not all that much, and not in a bad way. I think that in some respects, it gets softer and more drinkable. Fresh it has a bit of a bite to it that I don't care for, after a few weeks it smoothes out nicely.

I have a can of Alien Church that somehow got hidden in my fridge. It must be close to two months old. I'm interested to see what it tastes like tonight. Probably butter....

I think dank is actually a very specific tasting note that unfortunately is used incorrectly more often than not. Far more indicative of what you should expect from a beer than "hoppy." I think it's more akin to describing something as tropical or piney.

I agree, and it's a valid descriptor, but it's just overused a bit i think. dank/sticky/crushable are probably the words used most by the TH social media channels, and I have a few friends who endless use those words to describe every beer they drink.

Agree completely. I think it's just a product of people with "young" palates tossing around buzz words because reviewing a beer seems almost mandatory at this point.

When I hear or use 'dank', i'm using it to mean 'smells like pot'.

Is "crushable" just slang for "it's easy to drink"?

If so - then I agree it's a description, but could apply to a multitude of beer styles.

That's what I assume too. Earthy, pine resin hop flavor.

Same here. Sierra Nevada's Tropical IPA for example. But some stoners on those sites very well just mean "good" by "dank" for all I know.

Does anyone know if they're planning a release this Thursday/Friday? I took days off work planning to go no matter what they release but with the anniversary event this Sunday are we even sure they'll release cans during the week?
