I know that feeling very well myself. But in the event of an event I'd leave instructions on what beers to pull and ship from the cellar.

What were you doing in Oaxaca? I worked down there for about 4 months back in 2007.

How does one make it into your cellar will? Haha.

Second adventure in Mexico, with my first ex wife, mid '70's. Been down three times, a little over a year spent traveling through what is truly my second favorite country. She never forgave me for the Oaxaca incident(s).

Haha. I've got some wild Oaxaca stories as well, but nothing that cost me a wife. I was in a real backwater town right on the ocean in the isthmus part of the state, which was an experience but I quickly realized I didn't want to be there too long. In retrospect, I wish I'd spent more time in Oaxaca city and taken more weekend trips, although I did get to Mexico City twice, San Cristobal de las Casas (that's a special place) and Huatulco. I didn't make it to the infamous Zipolite; I'm not sure if you're familiar with the place.

Haha no Zipolite. We hit the w. coast from Guaymas to Acapulco, spent the most time in Mazatlan, actually La Isla de la Piedra which was an amazing time. Love Oaxaca, spent a good amount of time there all three visits, also Puebla, Mexico DF, Guadalajara, Ciudad Obregon, and camped at Mocuzari for a month's fishing. Also spent a month in the mountains in Huautla enjoying those treats folks enjoy there haha. Didn't do much of the west coast, but spent a month in Vera Cruz (another worthy story of drunken trouble hanging with Norwegian sailors), including camping at Boca Del Rio and Mocambo.

I never made it to Veracruz but that's a bucket list place. Passed through Puebla several times on my way to or from DF, which is a treat in and of itself just for a view of Popocatepetl.

As much as I drink back here in the states, it all pales in comparison to the amount of drinking I did and have done in Mexico.

Indeed, and for me it wasn't always the good stuff. Such great memories fire roasting plantanos on sticks and sipping Aguardiente de cana and chasing the liquid fire with Tecate as the gentle gulf waves rolled onto the golden sand.

Second place box is on its way ninja style. Not expecting a fast trip, due to the distance (hint). I also mentioned previously the recipient was west (which doesn't exclude many people).

@smanson56 had given me the bronze medal box to send.
It is going out later this week. Waiting for my brother to drop off my latest Carton Shipment.

Yeah, I dug through about 600 posts this morning looking for who had volunteered for those two spots.

Hitting one of the beers ninja'd to me by @SammyJaxxxx now:

This might be the perfect east coast DIPA to give to someone used to PNW/west coast versions. Big, bold, brash and fruity as hell (not that there's anything wrong with that). It actually sorta reminds me of Impaler, the galaxy-hopped DIPA I once sent a grunt of to @SammyJaxxx as part of the first NBS BIF, although War Elephant's tropical fruit blast is on a higher plane of existance. Great stuff!

"The tastebuds are first hit by a Blitzkrieg of tropical fruit flavors, as forcast in the aroma. A more bitter, piney-grapefruity bitterness then followed, like the infantry mopping up after the armored division. Malts are mostly awol. The 8.7% alcohol is mostly buried under the hop assault, like ninjas infiltrating silently, targeting the drinker’s sobriety. The finish is dry, yet with a mild, lingering sweetness."
Glad I still have 5 or 6 six in fridge, this fantastic bit of perfect description has got me thirsty for one right now. Nice review man!

Yeah, the whole War Elephant thing may have led me to be a little goofy with the prose. Great beer, though. Where the hell is Chester, NY, anyway? I've only heard of the one in PA.

It's downstate, pretty much the city.

Uh-oh. Did I just accidentally touch off a resumption of the whole what's upstate/downstate argument?

Just got word that I'll be going out of town this weekend, so no NBS for me this weekend, in all probability.

This could possibly lead to more of the remaining beers from @Ri0 and @SammyJaxxx being consumed during the week, in order to make up for that.
