Just a customer, not affiliated with the brewery...........BUT you know they don't want anyone to drink and drive drunk?

Speculating......But you say say they don't support drinking and driving??

You seem to know, or pretend to know, but say you don't know what their motivations are in regards to their pricing of the tickets to this event.

I am really confused to the point of your post.

My point? You are affiliated.....or.....you are just full of shit.

Jack, I am even more confused by your post then you are of mine, Im willing to bet. Of course they don't support drinking and driving, and they dont want people to drive drunk, they could potentially get in a lot of legal/PR trouble, lol. It doesn't take someone affiliated with the brewery to rationally conclude this. wow.

They also offered in person sales, that's how I got my ticket.

There's a difference between "not supporting" and "actively discouraging" ... you can see that, right? The "cheaper than $10K DUI" argument certainly doesn't sound like MAAD approved lingo or active discouragement. Sounds like shrugging shoulders > flipping the bird > passing the buck.

Of course 18th isn't going to say "we love it when bitches drink and drive cuz we never hadd DDs growing up." But Actively discouraging takes a bit of effort. Scenario: you are pretty far away from the major population center that provides a lot of support for your business and is sure to patronize your event ... so paid trasnsit is expensive; you have a 2 hour event which translates to roughly 1.5 hours to drink 32 ounces of beer that's probably 10% abv+, so people that weigh in under Samoan BMI are sure to get a bit saucy; it's during a WORK DAY when spouses / significant others may be working, so conning them into doing that will probably take some pretty pleases more appealing than "soda and a tee, boo". Does pricing the DD ticket at $70 ACTIVELY DISCOURAGE drunk driving or does it encourage people to think "I'll just take it easy and keep it under control"? Yeah, people have free will and are responsible for their own choices, but incentives make the world go round.

18th is choosing to do this event. Motivations may be purely "we love our customers - yay" or purely "we can make a shit ton of money by piggybacking on DLD". Probably a complex cuvee of these two motivations and others. But for you, or others, to then say "gosh it's hard to have DDs and running an event is stwessful" as motivation for the stupid DD price makes it sound like their hand was forced. "Damn - we gotta do this barrel event?" If it's too hard to run the event in responsible way ... don't. Wait. Wait until you're bigger, more established, have the facilities, the process down. If we saw corners being cut in beer production - and we don't, do we (wink wink) - and there were excuses about how hard it is to do it the right way, we wouldn't let that slide ...

Sure, they may not verbally endorse it but it's a curious thing how they've moved from a ticketed à la carte approach where folks could purchase pours separately to a bundled approach where folks throw down 7 pours into their gullet in less than 2 hours to maximize the 'value' of the event because 18th St already has their money for the 7. They then offer DD tickets at a ridiculous price regardless of their reasoning, which to my knowledge on the record is no reasoning. Oh wait, it's cheaper than a DUI, right. So yeah, verbally they might not endorse drinking & driving.

But you're not. Still has the ridiculous 1 bottle of each style in place, which makes the cost of admission even more mind-boggling.

    LOL

Don't forget about the guest drafts! 7 pours? Child's play. Maximize that value and take down double digit pours and then find a way home! Hooray!

Be careful to those who are going and even thinking of driving. 1.5 hours to chug high ABV beers @ 35 oz, then potentially driving or getting anywhere near your car. This location is RIGHT NEXT to the Hammond PD.

You state you have no affiliation with them, but you seem to know what they support and don't support. So you seem to be assuming.

This either makes you an ass, or you are full of shit because you do have an affiliation with the brewery.

I am willing to bet you understand this post. :grinning:

Exactly. I am entitled to come to a beer forum and rag on them for their ridiculous prices and mediocre beers because this is part of BA. And I've tried a few of their barrel aged offerings; for this ticket to cost nearly as much as DLD while only getting 2 hours, a few small pours, and a fucking lanyard, you bet your ass I'm gonna call them out.

Every brewery has it's fanboys. Here in CT there's a brewery called Stony Creek. Their beers suck. But their building/brewpub is a fun and lively place to be, so it is packed on the reg. So they get to continue pumping out shitty beer.

Me? If a brewery's sales area was coated in feces, but they were pumping out stuff of Hill Farm or Tree House quality, you best believe I'm getting my shoes dirty. It should be about the beer, but sometimes it isn't.

I guess you really don't know how to read. Please quote me where i say they do endorse drinking and driving.

Once again you say you are not affiliated with them, but here you go stating what they endorse.

I just find your original post contradictory and amusing.

Pretty crazy that a brewery with the rep and fan following of 18th street can't sell out a fest like this. It's not like beer geeks are willing to overpay for beer or anything.

I'm personally glad - it gives me hope that beer hasn't COMPLETELY jumped the shark. There's overpaying and then there's outright highway robbery. 70 bucks for a 1.5 hour event that you have to chug 35 oz of BA beers (well have to if you want to get what you pay for) is the latter.

    I agree completely.

I love the fact that they have guest kegs too available for sale. Just in case you want to make it a real power hour.

From The Facebook this morning: "We've got word that we will have a featured BA selection from Three Floyds Brewpub, along with KINGS RESERVE BA selections from Sun King Brewing Company available on draft for purchase during our upcoming Barrel Massacre."

Just in case you haven't spent enough, buy these pours too while you pound away in that 90-minute window because they're not included in your ticket price.
