I agree with this. Fenway itself is in just about a perfect area, downtown with lots of public transport and surrounded by great bars and dinning, however inside the park kind of sucks. I love the nostalgia and history but I also love sitting in a seat without being crushed by the two people next to me (and i'm small). I also enjoy facing homeplate and not the outfield especially when there isn't a support pole right in front of me!

Let's just be clear about one thing... If the Red Sox built a new ball park the cost of merchandise, food and alcohol would be the same or most likely higher then it is now. True story. Also some of my most vivid memories with my Dad and family are from Fenway so I get the whole "magic" thing 100%.

Another life long Sox fan here that hates that fucking park. You'd have to pay ME to go to a game there. The seats are uncomfortable, the prices for everything are ridiculous, the beer is the highest priced in MLB, the product on the field has been awful the last few years (and if you discount 2013, even further back than that), and the Sox statistically have some of the longest games in baseball....so when you're there, you're there for a long time, and you get cut off from the high priced beer even if you wanted it.

ALL that being said, it's unique, it has history, and I would definitely go to a game there if I was from out of town. Much like everyone else, I have great memories there, and it's a magical place to watch a game. But park's get old, and when you go to another park that is more modern, it really opens your eyes. Even a Celtics/Bruins game is refreshing, the prices are lower (not by a huge amount), and it's a quick action packed game with a good view from almost anywhere.

If it's possible, preserve what you can of the ball park, and build something more modern. Or reduce your prices, it's a tough sell when your ball park is ancient and your prices aren't.

Jacks Abby house lager in 16 ounce cans for 9.75. Found them under bleacher section 40 or so. Good deal considering bud lights were 9.25.

Went to the game on Monday. Glad to see the tall boys not priced much higher than the draft or 12oz can options ($9.75 per tall boy can). Tall boys of JA House Lager priced the same as tall boys of Harpoon IPA, Take 5 Session Ale, Camp Wannamango, and UFO White. Maybe Wachusett will feel the pressure and start canning Green Monsta in a 16oz format...

As a side note, happy 104th birthday to Fenway Park!

What's all this talk about uncomfortable seating, sitting next to drunks, obstructed views, and high prices? When I go, seats are comfy, food is plentiful, drinks (including hard bar) are free and the only drunk is me. hehehehe

Coca-Cola Pavilion - at the bar
Third-base deck - under Coke Pavilion
    Bleachers - under section 41

Couldn't find that Red Sox beer map on Facebook. Did you meant Jack's Abby posted it or the Sox? Link? TIA.

I'm far from a casual fan and think they should have leveled the place a few decades ago when they had the chance to rebuild in Fenway. Being 6'3 is what drives it. I can't sit in the grandstand seats without my knees pressing into the seat in front of me, so generally I'm either in the bleachers or loge seats. If others are offered I generally turn them down.

Once you've visited a place like Camden Yards you realize what a shithole Fenway really is.

Oh I've visited Camden Yards and Citizen's Bank in Philly and they are great. A lot of room and cup holders on the back of every seat, they definitely have Fenway beat in terms of comfort and convenience. I'm surprised so many people would prefer a new ballpark actually. I'm 6' and weigh 250 so yeah Fenway is a bit uncomfortable but I gladly trade the modern conveniences for history and charm. There is just something about walking up that tunnel at Fenway that I can't put into words. As John Updike said it's just "a classic little bean box of a ballpark." I guess to each his own but personally I would be crushed if they had leveled Fenway.

Fenway is obviously older, but aside from age, the old Garden had FAR more memories, titles, and history than Fenway. Fenway is a historical sports land mark for sure, but after all these years, and another title and new memories at the TD Garden, do you think anyone is still crushed they leveled the old Garden?

I completely empathize with how you feel, it's a great feeling to walk into that park. But at some point modern comfort, convenience and common sense outweigh history and charm.

I am gladly visiting that shithole of a park on Saturday night and am looking forward to people wathing all the drunks and drinking JA HL. Quick question- I just booked a room at the Sheraton Boston (Prudential Center) for the wife and I to stay so we don't have to drive home, based on the recommendations in this thread, Butkowski's is the most convenient stop for us on our walk to the pahk, correct?

Yeah, Buks is pretty close to the SI, and Boston Beer Works isn't faahh from Fenway itself, right across the street.....

    Prosit!!

Bukowski's and Lower Depths (cheap hot dogs) have great lists...both quite expensive as far as beer goes, but you have the best chance of drinking some great beer. Buk's won't have as much of a game day vibe though, if that matters. Cornwall's usually has an okay list (UK type pub beers, and local stuff) and better prices.
Island Creek, Eastern Standard, Hawthorne all have great cocktail programs and better food.
