Dark Lord Day 2016

6 hours? That's just about the time that poor decisions begin to be made. I'd consider a later shuttle.

 

As someone who went to my first Dark Lord Day last year, I think @Xeal is making a smart decision.

I did the 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. shift last year and wound up back at my place in Chicago around 6 p.m. with blood on my face and a black eye. The cause of this remains unknown to this day among myself and the four dudes I was with.

Having said that, I'm pretty psyched to be going from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. again this year. See you guys in ten days.

My friend and I just cracked up after reading that. Love the story man! If we're spilling the beans on first time DLD stories I'll throw mine out there again (in a nutshell)... The year was 2012, I was drunk by the time the gates opened, got kicked out of the brewpub (not the entire fest) and proceeded to lose my group C ticket somewhere along the way. Couldn't get my bottles but my friends let me buy 1 bottle each off of them. Since that year I've gotten better and even made it from open-close in 2014

 

Too funny! This'll be my first DLD so looking forward to what stories will come out of my day. Hopefully nothing like that lol

 

I'd tell my own personal DLD story, but it's so depressing it'd probably shut the thread down and Three Floyd's might actually cancel DLD permanently, having to recognize all of world's internet users' inability to find the willpower to continue to function.

 

I met somebody last year who drank an entire handle of bourbon by 4pm. He was super blitzed, but all of the fun.

My first Dark Lord Day I didn't know bottle sharing was a thing, I mean how could that be legal I was thinking, and showed up with nothing. No food, no beer, no water. Just stood in line for 4 hours, had a couple drafts, and bought some Dark Lord. I saw the bottle share tables but didn't think I could partake, I just figured all those people knew each-other and I wasn't invited. After I got my bottles I went home.

 

@kodt did the same thing my first year. Luckily everyone around us in line saw it and were great with offering pours.

My first DLD I showed up w/ NE Hops and made friends quickly and got to tick a ton of Lambics because of it. Had a great time, everyone was more than friendly.

 

We showed up in 2014 with a few bottles to share but never thought to bring a cup! I ended up offering to trade a heady topper (which was one of the 4 beers I brought with) to a few guys for two plastic cups (one for me and one for my buddy) and proceeded to be pulled into their group for the next few hours sharing a ton of their beers along with our meager offerings and it turned into an awesome time.

 

I don't recall seeing this anywhere recently and this is our first year actually getting a room at the Munster Hampton, but anyone heard any details on shuttle form there? Like confirmation it is running and times?

 

If I recall correctly there's no schedule - it just makes trips and you wait in front of the hotel. They give you a number to call for return trips. I think it's $5 per person per trip. And the hotel has had it in place for the last few years so I have no reason to think they wouldn't do it again this year.

The hotel fully embraces DLD...they tolerate the bottle share, give you a "welcome bag" and have had a chalk drawing of the DLD artwork in the lobby.

 

does anyone know what time people will be outside fff letting people park? i know last year i parked real close but i didnt get there until early afternoon and paid $30 for parking. this year I will be getting there much earlier and dont want to show up too early and have nowhere close to park

 

Hey guys I'm staying at the Hampton...does anyone know what time the free breakfast starts. I want to get to Dark Lord Day early but I need to make sure I have a few bagels in my stomach first. Also, do they have just orange juice or can I get down on some apple juice. I don't want to have a lot of acid in my system.
