A thought on the leftovers from 15. I thought 15 DL base beer was a bit better than the couple years prior. Those undesirable variants have what we know is a good base beer... which may or may not be the case with the new stuff. Beers that big are tricky to get right, even for pro's.

 

That sounds like it could be annoying. I was hoping for at least a sold out list.

 

They didn't do a 'sold out list last year. You asked for a specific one, and they would tell you whether they sold out of it or not.

 

Don't the 15 variants use the 14 DL as the base so that they have time to age? Or am I way off here?

 

OH, I think I get your question... I don't know how they'll handle people asking for varriants at the later stages... this is sort of new!

Yes. Aged for a year with the previous year as a base. Hence the 2013 variants sucking since the 2012 was awful.

 

Last year I guessed correctly on my 2nd try. Asked for VBDL first, which was no dice. Asked for Cognac Coffee DL next and that proved to be the winner.

 

I'm ridiculously stoked to see them, Death Mask was my jam a couple years ago.

That said... yeah, the lineup is a bit underwhelming. I've seen EHG and Witch several times each (and they've both played DLD before), and they're great, but I was hoping FFF would really pull out some big guns since it's the 20th Anniversary.

 

We definitely need more cowbell.

 

I think I'm most stoked to see Plague Bringer and Barrier. I had not heard of Barrier and like what youtube has shared.

MW is fun.

Skeletonwitch should be interesting with the new singer, but from what I've heard I prefer the old vocalist.

Eyehategod hasn't ever really done much for me.

 

I saw Plague Bringer a few years ago and they were good. If I end up over by the stage at that time I'll definitely check them out.

 

Hmm I like it. Mainly because I'm a group E peasant and would like an aquavit.

 

So here's my concern....

I've never had: Aquavit, Pineau de Charentes, Sauternes, or Porto.

As @dtjager stated, I'm vexed by what flavor these will impart to the base beer.

Im personally excited about the variants, again I probably will never know which one was the worst since I have never had any to begin with. Given that I'll be in Group C I'll take what I can get but here are my personal preferences:

Vanilla HJ(i see what you did there FFF)
Ronaldo
QHY
BADL
De Muerte.

 

I drank my Coffee Cognac last month and it was delicious, plenty of coffee flavor, don't have a comparison to fresh though

 

Damnit man, I got group C. I need people to believe those turds stand a chance of being the better beer.
