L-A cautious pour reveals a golden colored beer with a fluffy 3/4 white head. The beer is clearer that what I'd expected given it's unfiltered nature. Apparently they centrifuge it which is technically not filtering I guess.
S- Initially I caught a whiff of sulfur upon pouring. This is not out of character for the style however. This is quickly overcome by the bready malts with an almost sweet/spicy finish from the hops.
T- The flavor is what you would expect of a lager. Malts first and foremost with enough spicy/herbal hop flavor to balance out the sweetness. No DMS in the flavor that i could detect.
F-Prickly carbonation leads to the mouthfeel being light, crisp, and dry.
O- Other than the clarity being somewhat higher than I expected, the beer is on point with the style. It's well executed and easy to drink. I can see myself bringing this to a get together and sharing with non craft drinkers or enjoying the whole six pack myself. Another great beer from these guys.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @utopiajane for getting us underway,

I'm currently about 150 miles from home visiting with the parentals. My brother came in from the coast with his 6yr old, and we all just came back from a brunch. It's a sunny day in south-central Washington state, but very breezy, putting a bite in things.
Not sure I'll get in a beer today, new or otherwise, but earlier in the week I had myself a tasty east coast IPA, courtesy of @SammyJaxxx:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29800/85357/?ba=woemad#review
    Really dug this beer!
I've still got a bunch of beers from @Ri0 that he sent me for the NBS BIF # 3, but at this point what's left are some fairly robust beers, so I think they should be safe until next week. I think I may have to hit some lighter beers from @SammyJaxxx during this coming week, though, along with a couple IPAs I picked up on Wednesday that I foolishly thought I could fit into my last box to @newjack.

    Cheers!

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I would like to echo all the praise being heaped on the informative posts right out of the gate. I love seeing stuff like that and you can bet that I will be scrutinizing the color and malt bill of my Pilsners from now on, @utopiajane.

It is a nice, springy day here. It looks beautiful but it is actually cold and windy out. I might be working “in” my “garden” later on (no, that is not a euphemism for anything, it is a jab at my gardening/garden), but we'll see.

For my new beer today I am having a can of Green from Treehouse, courtesy of a kick-ass trade with a great guy (you know who you are) that has had me swimming in hops for the last couple weeks. I like these guys' beers a lot based on the few I have had from them. The really juicy ones are insanely good and interesting, but the flavors in general don't quite jive with the oomph in flavor that I want in an IPA. I would never turn one down, but they never address every thing I want from a hoppy beer (read: sappiness). Just based on the name and the blurb on the can, I am especailly anxious to see about this one.

It pours cloudy peach-colored with a couple fingers of solid, creamy, big-bubbled head that is always there and beautiful sheets of lacing. The aroma is of orange creamsicle, dank hops, juniper, tart/crisp citrus, and a touch of biscuity malt in the background. The flavor is... Wow! The flavor is nice and layered with an initial wave of hearty, earthy resin that soon becomes light, tart citrus before dulling to a lingering, green humm of hop essence. It is medium bodied with a slight creaminess and prickly light carbonation. This beer is extrememly drinkable, but I almost feel like the hoppiness of it is hidden like some beers would hide alcohol. It seems to grow as I drink it. A layered, well-made beer that showcases the fruity and dank sides of our lupulin friends. Though this one puts the fruit on the back burner a little compared to Julius or Alter Ego. Might be my new favorite from them.

I should add more info. The last time I found their kolsch and it wasn't relatively ancient, it was a single... and I'm vaguely remembering that it was from the fall of 2015 - I could be wrong. I had this beer maybe a month or so ago. It was still delicious and (for me) a more pleasing beer than the fresher and more local "kolsch" beers available to me. Despite using the Gaffel yeast, it's more dry white wine-ish than Gaffel's imported delicious but bitter kolsch. If I saw the sixpack you mentioned, I would have purchased it, but it goes without saying that your impressions could have varied tremendously. Let me add that the single I bought was refrigerated, and the sixer at the Claymont Total Wine probably wasn't.

    Hello NBS!

My new beer today is Tallgrass's Pub Ale, Original 2007 Formula. This beer is listed on BA as an English Pale Mild Ale, but the brewer's website calls it an English Brown Ale (http://tallgrassbeer.com/pub-ale/?age-verified=b57086d651).

In any case, it pours a dark, semi-clear reddish brown from a 16 oz can into a shaker pint glass. Three fingers of off-white foam.

The nose is a whiff of sweet bready malt. The flavor is mild but complex, with malt, nuts, breadiness, and maybe just a bit of dark fruit. A kiss of hop bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and nice but lighter than most brown ales. Low ABV at 4.4.

The ticker in me was delighted to find an English pale mild, since I haven't tried this style, but I'm wondering if it's really an English Brown (since that's what the brewer calls it) or perhaps an English Dark Mild, since it is, well, dark. In any case, an enjoyable beer.

    Cheers!

Yup, it was not refrigerated. The Claymont store does have a number of beer refrigerators but I would guess that it can only contain a very small portion (e.g., less than 5%) of their beer stock (6-packs).

    Cheers!

Happy Sunday nbs players. Sunny, but with a turn to cooler spring weather here on the island. A pretty lazy Sunday for myself so far. Walked down to the deli and grabbed a sandwich, now I'm couching it and watching the mets game. Keeping things on the lighter side to start as I've been informed that I will be heading out for a bit this afternoon.

My first new beer today is Tale of the Shony, Scottish ale, from Church Street brewing in Illinois. The brew comes in at 5.1%, 32 ibu, and not apparent bottle date.

A dark amber pour with hazy clarity, lots of carbonation, and a fast tan head. The nose is on the lesser side with malt, caramel, and sugar sweetness. The drinking starts smooth and heavy on the malt. The beer has good flow that finishes crisp, and clean. Pretty good scotch flavor notes along with caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. The mouth feel is on the lighter side, and it really walks the line of being watery but it seems to manage to hold up just enough.

Overall, an interesting take on a sessionable side of the style and better than I had expected it to be. I'm right around a 3.5 or slightly lower.

    Grüss Gott NBS crew!

I know I'm a day late celebrating the 500th anniversary of Reinheitsgebot but I've had a lot of business with the Duvel lately.

A little tooting of my horn on this sunny Ohio afternoon. Sunny blue skies remind me of...

...my love for Bavaria and all things Bavarian. This love runs deep. Back in another life, vacation travels took me there annually for 3-4 weeks for many years to a small Bavarian town not far from the Austrian border.
Once there, I sojourned out daily (weather permitting) on an old-lady bike with watercolors, chair, various gear, and lunch in tow. Spending most days painting, sketching, contemplating and baking under blue and white Bavarian skies. A magical countryside of pristine farms, farmers, deer, coo-coo birds, giant rabbits, hedgehogs, game birds, predator birds, a couple boar, and more.

    bei Hartkirchen

After a few years of this, I discovered that some of the farmers concluded that I must be a wandering Turkish gypsy that harmlessly showed up every summer sketching near (or in) their fields. I always kind of liked that storyline.

    Könige Wiese

Spent many nights drinking and eating with Bavarian friends at the local shooting club. They eventually made me an honorary member. The respect they had for Bavarian beer and Bavarian tradition was deep and sincere. Gerhard, Franz, Alfonz, Anton, Marcus, Josef, Elisabeth, Maria, Karen, Monika, Gabby. I could write a book on my many simple cultural experiences that took place in this beautiful corner of the universe.

For now, I'll drink to the tradition and happy memories of Bayern. "Die Farben Seines Himmels, Weiß und Blau."

    und das Bier heute:

Drinking a Bavarian beer for me involves far more than its consumption. This excellent beer tastes particularly good from this vessel. Aroma is fresh and the taste is delicate, complex, smooth, yeasty and yet...ridiculously drinkable. The 5.6 ABV is a green light to drink more than a couple of these...and more contemplation of all things Bavarian.

Great posts today! Thanks for indulging my stroll down a memory lane.

It is a glass from a new brewery here in Montréal called MaBrasserie. They are a "Brewing Co-Op," so they are a basically group of brewers who brews their individual beers (for their brewpubs) as well as contract beers and a house brand. The house xPAs are called Tribale. They are based on Algonquin monsters. This one is for the IIPA. It is a Wendigo. Thanks for asking, because it took me to this wiki article, which is pretty interesting. Also, if you're interested, the google images has much creepier illustrations than the one on the glass.

New BA Farmhouse Pale Ale Sunday.

Greetings NBS! It's pleasant and sunny here today at the Jersey Shore, a real Spring day. It's NBS and a busy Sunday also. It started with a very early morning run, then golf, some lunch and a new brew. Next is some family good stuff with a real beer. The funky and dry Farmhouse ale that I just finished didn't quite measure up and I'm not convinced that it was born a pale ale. What do I know? Here's the review:http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26439/84759/?ba=NiceTaps#review

Thanks to @utopiajane for the spectacular kick off! Maria's gonna teach stuff. informative and enjoyable right out the gate!

The kingdom is celebrating absolutely fabulous weather today. Major cleaning in the kitchen followed by planting of culinary herbs, kale, and a little yard cleaning. As little as possible on that last bit... The queen seems pleased that some effort has been made, so I will rjoice and be glad!

Lunch today is a leftover sandwich from an awesome local Italian deli. We have all this beer around, so why not drink some?

Found week old Captain's Daughter at a bottle shop yesterday. This is a little unusual, as most times it is sold out by Saturday since the tell me it drops mid week. Lets see what all the fuss is about with this brew. It pours a medium hazy goldish yellow color with a think two finger, creamy head. Nice persistence, and some significant lacing. The aroma smacks you immediately with a massive citrus blend. While it is mostly grapefruit, there is some tangerine and orange. From the tropics, nice notes of mango, passionfruit, papaya, maybe a little pineapple. Some apricot or peach comes through, but it is struggling to get a vote. There is earthiness that I can best describe as oily. And I havent even tasted this stuff yet...yikes.

The taste is like a swarm of citrus, tropical, floral/grassy, earthy, resinous. It is ALL in there, and while I wouldn't say it is an harmonious beer, it is moderately well-controlled mayhem. The bitter at the back of the taste is substantial and cleans things up just a little bit, but not much. The beer feels thick and creamy without being cloying...it isnt light, but it isnt overwhelming either. I am not finding any malt, and I almost wish there was some sweetness...almost...

I know there has been some issue with variation in this beer, but the three more I have are hopefully as fine as the one I am enjoying right now. I am diggin' this beer and would certainly purchase it again. Feeling this coming in around the 4.2-ish neighborhood, maybe higher. Mentally, I am trying to not make comparisons because this beer is its own thing. It reminds me of Lunch, Heady, even Ruination, but it is no copycat in my opinion.

The missus enjoyed a new beer too...Two Roads Road Jam Raspberry Wheat. I have to take her word...I cant taste anything in it at the moment. She says it isnt too sweet, has nice lemony notes, but the raspberry isnt as fruity/fresh as her beloved Rubaeus.

Cheers all, hopefully I have a contribution for LNNBS...

New Barrel Aged Wee Heavy Sunday (week 583)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Gorgeous day that got off to a perfect cool start, and now has peaked to a wonderfully sunny just right high 60's Spring Day. Yum. Very busy day at work, ran out of room in electronics and it had the domino effect of snarling traffic at all the other stations. Hard to be in two places at once, impossible to be at three. Stayed half hour late catching up, dreaming of this beer the wold time.

More big thanks due our own @kemoarps for yet another stupendous offering from Washington State, specifically Black Raven Brewery. It is a Barrel Aged Scotch ale, but if it had been called an English Barleywine I wouldn't have argued. Some decent alcohol spice, not unexpectedly considering its almost 11% ABV, surrounds a complex and yummy panoply of bright flavors that burst upon palate with pleasing persistence. The whole story can be read here in my review.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

First time having this and only the 2nd beer I've ever had from Avery. Dark color and thin head, smelled like roasted nuts and chocolate. The taste was toasty and chocolate, think Nutella. It was a bit thin almost porter like and had an alcohol finish. Is that a trait of Avery beers? It wasn't a bad stout I'd give it about a 3.75, it was easy to drink.
