And then even among the BA's, one side says they taste "like water", the other side compares them to various human or animal bodily fluids.

    Huh?

(Beer flavor aside, it does make one concerned about water quality in certain regions).

That's how I feel about 120 minute. I've had it twice, once when it was 6 months old and once when it was 2 years old, and both times tasted like straight malt syrup. It was so bad my tasting group couldn't even finish the bottle. I might consider drinking it again if I can get a bottle that's less than a month old

Have you had their Mokah or Jahva? Those are fantastic Backwater beers. I can understand Creme Brulee though, I absolutely hated that stuff. Another drain pour at the tasting group

Pumking is even polarizing for myself during a single bottle! I drink a few drinks and think I love it, then after a few more I kinda start not wanting to finish it.

Choklat I thought was maybe my favorite Stout ever, and Creme Brulee was a drain pour I couldn't finish a glass.

So the Southern Tier backwater beers as a group are very polarizing to me.

Came here to say Mother Funker. So many people hate it (which I can understand), but I personally love the pulverizing acidity. I have yet to encounter a beer that's too sour for me, old Cantillon & 3F included.

A recent one was Founders Frangelic Mountain Brown. I think it was disliked by BAs who siad that they don't like hazelnut or overly-sweet beers (myself included), but I saw many favorable comments on the various threads about this beer too.

Agreed. I know a bunch of people that hate this beer, but I see some people every year buying cases as a time. A fool and their money...

Going to have to try the lot of these suggestions. Should be a great time (as long as I skip Ghost Face...cus fuck that noise).

Popped the DFH 75 I had hidden in the fridge..the first 5 sips I was about to pour it because I kept thinking of the pepto bottle of smoked crap. And I'm pleased to say, as it warmed it really became a great beer. Talk about polarizing in 25 sips

It tasted very bland at first but as it warmed the maple came out. I didn't really think it was a good IPA. Didn't really taste like an IPA.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I love, LOVE, Hopslam and am actually concerned there is something wrong with your tongue*.

*please note, I am sure you are fine. This was added for dramatic effect.

First one that came to mind was ST Creme Brulee. I'm in the "hate" camp on this one, although if it came in 4oz bottles I might just love it.
Also, oddly enough (to me anyway), it seems a lot of people don't like Orval. I just had another last night and loved it as much as ever.
And of course as others have mentioned, Dark Lord. Still have my one bottle, eventually I'll find out what the fuss is all about.

Frangelic Mountain Brown ....I think people got too caught up in the fact that ti said artificail on the label to actually sit down and enjoy the beer

The Shorts Fruit beers, Key Lime Pie and Shorts Cake...plenty of love hat with them....

Agreed I don't care what you do as long as the beer still tastes good. Hopefully now I can actually get my hands on some Bourbon Country to try too

I love Deviant Dale's, but I admit to this day I've put off trying Gubna because of all the negative reviews. Many seem to say that Gubna is similar to DD, if that's the case I'd probably like it too. I guess I'll just have to pick up a four pack and decide for myself.

    Gubna really depends to me.

Some times I love it, other times I want to pour it out.

I've never had a good experience with Gubna on tap.

I don't like it at all...if you gave it to me for free I wouldn't drink it.
